Fall is just around the corner and personally, I’m here for it. It’s my favorite time of the year and I’m excited to rewatch some classics and also get into new shows this year.
- Over the Garden Wall
This show is always my go-to at the beginning of the season. It’s a short series you can binge in one shot, as there’s only 10 episodes, each being around 20 minutes long. It’s a show that first aired on Cartoon Network in 2014 and the perfect amount of fun, whimsy, and unsettling to get you in the spirit of fall and eventually Halloween.
It’s an animated story of two brothers who get lost in the woods after a mishap on Halloween, where they encounter strange places and people, while being hunted by a beast who wants to trap their souls. I have an in-depth look at this series I did last fall season that I recommend checking out after watching!
- Stranger Things
When I say watching Stranger Things this season, I mean mainly rewatching the first season. It’s the perfect amount of mystery and solemness that the other seasons just don’t have. It captures the vibes of the 80s and the mystery of Will Byers’ disappearance, with a monster that’s trying to take him away forever. Even at the end of this season, you don’t know that much about the greater picture of the series yet.
However, the second season has a lot of spooky vibes and fun times that can’t be understated, as it takes place directly in fall as well. But I recommend stopping there for the season-unless you really want to continue!- since the following seasons take place in summer and don’t have as much eeriness.
- Wednesday
I can’t believe it’s already been almost two years since this show first aired on Netflix. It has its flaws, but I thought it was a delightful show with lots of mystery and of course, the spookiness and gothness of the Addams family. If you need a refresher, this show is about Wednesday going to Nevermore Academy to harness her psychic abilities, and solve a spree of murders that plagued even her parents during their time at the academy.
It’s dark, it’s funny and overall a good time and a great watch whether you’re heavily into the Addams’ family story or this was your first introduction to the lore like it was for me. My only complaint is the weird love triangle that goes on throughout, as even I feel that doesn’t make sense for Wednesday’s character, but it doesn’t ruin the show for me, and I’m excited for the eventual arrival of season two.
- Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Despite it being my namesake and growing up with “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” jokes being thrown at me, I actually never have seen either show before. This show is a reimagining of the comics of Sabrina and is a lot different from its original predecessor in the 90s. It ran for four seasons on Netflix before they canceled it in 2020. So while it is technically incomplete,.there’s still plenty to watch and maybe I need to finally watch the series that plagued my childhood with witch jokes, even if it’s not the original series.
- Arcane Season 2
So the finale of Arcane isn’t out until late November, but that’s still during the fall season and I’m way too excited about this show to leave it out of here. Netflix has been dropping trailers for this season and there’s so much to unpack. However, I don’t want to get into spoilers from the previous season, so I’ll do an in-depth look at the show overall once it’s complete. But the trailers are doing an amazing job hyping people up for the finale of Violet and her very troubled sister Jinx and I’m just upset that I have to wait another 2 months for the season to drop. In the meantime, I have the rest of these shows on the list to catch up with!
That is my very subjective taste of shows to watch this season, but all are popular shows that can be fun and easy for lots of people to get into. As the weather grows colder, it’ll be a perfect time to finally catch up on some shows, new and old.
