I love the sense of community that comes from SDCC. Sure, we experience that feeling whenever we go to a con or festival, but the news that comes out from SDCC is always heart-exploding. I was especially looking forward to any Dungeons & Dragons or Borderlands news this year. Therefore, when I heard that Hasbro Pulse was interviewing the authors of my favorite cookbook line, I knew I had to jump in on that livestream. So, without further ado, let’s talk about Heroes’ Feast.

What is Heroes’ Feast?

Heroes’ Feast is a higher-level spell in Dungeons and Dragons that players can cast to eat a large feast. It has some fantastic benefits that can be useful, especially when preparing for a battle. However, it is also a line of beautifully made cookbooks and has even become a television program. The original book was released in 2020, taking the nerdy culinary world by storm. Three short years later, Flavors of the Multiverse: An Offical D&D Cookbook also hit the shelves, bringing more nerds into the kitchen. Finally, players can expect The Deck of Many Morsels to be released this October.
The Deck of Many Morsels is a deck of recipe cards that players can whip out during game time.

It has:

  • 20 recipes from the original book
  • 20 recipes from Flavors of the Multiverse
  • 10 never-before-seen recipes

SDCC Heroes’ Feast Interview

Jordan Hembrough of Hasbro Pulse interviewed Kyle Newman, Jon Peterson, and Mike Witwer, the authors of the Heroes’ Feast cookbook series. Peterson explained that the team had initially worked on Art & Arcana with Ten Speed Press before discovering that the publisher also specialized in cookbooks. This is where the culinary world and D&D lore collision was born.

Newman also explained that creating this cookbook could aid immersion at the D&D table. The authors wanted to give players that sense of being in their role-playing world. Additionally, Witwer explained that The Deck of Many Morsels has less intensive recipes than others we may see in the full cookbooks. They view this as a way for players not only to come together to play D&D but also to share a meal together. Overall, this series’s authors want players to enjoy each other’s company during play and meal time.

Odds & Ends

Ultimately, I found it heartwarming to hear the authors explain their thoughts on how their cookbooks can be used during a D&D campaign. I own both cookbooks and am considering ordering copies of The Deck of Many Morsels and Puncheons & Flagons. If you want to watch the live stream, the link is here. I have also included a link to the first book. If you want more nerdy cookbooks, Andie Boyungs created an excellent article that will excite you. Overall, I am looking forward to seeing what these authors will share with us in the future.
