Nostalgia gets me every time. One of my most distinct memories of the early days of dating my spouse is texting each other during an episode of Adventure Time (AT). I was sitting on my couch, hyping this series up and telling him how great it was. Unfortunately, the first episode he was watching was “Prisoners of Love,” in which Ice King kidnaps princesses in a plot to marry one. It was not a good look, and he was not feeling it until I made him watch a few more episodes. After that, he was hooked, and I made a lifelong fan out of him. Fast forward many years, and now, we are huge Dungeons and Dragons nerds. Therefore, when I saw the Kickstarter for Adventure Time: The Roleplaying Game (AT: TRPG), I knew I had to share it with you. So, without further ado, let’s talk about it.

Adventure Time: The Roleplaying Game

AT: TRPG is a tabletop RPG set in the Land of Ooo that uses the d20 system. This is a 5E-compatible game that uses core D&D 5E rules. Therefore, if you are familiar with D&D, picking up this adventure should be an easy feat. Additionally, if you are unfamiliar with D&D or tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs), the base pledge includes a condensed core rule book. Ultimately, this could be a great way to get into TTRPGs or make a fun new adventure for your players.

Thoughts

I was ecstatic when I saw the Adventure Time: The Roleplaying Game Kickstarter cross my social media feed. The idea of combining two of my favorite things never crossed my mind. My excitement doubled when I asked my players if they would be interested in such a campaign, and they answered yes. Several things intrigue me about this campaign setting.

First, I want to learn how a “whoops all wizards” group would work. Would this be a great introduction to spellcasting classes for those who have never played one? I am unsure, but there is only one way to find out. Secondly, I see that Hug Wolf is included under the monsters category of this Kickstarter. I hope we will see other sinister beings that we love to hate. Specifically, I want to watch my players interact with Ricardio. I think that would be hilarious. Finally, I am also interested in how they simplified the core D&D rules for a broader audience. I am curious to see if there are any tips I could use to help future players learn the game. Overall, I am excited to back this campaign and cannot wait to play it.
