The Owl House is considered one of the gems that Disney has produced regarding a series with an extended plot line. It had a good run of three seasons, starting in 2020 to the final three episodes last year in 2023. Unfortunately, that it had to end so soon, but for what it’s worth, the ending was fun and spectacular, bringing all of Dana Terrace’s characters together cohesively. I’ll admit it’s been a bit since I’ve seen it, but I still remember all the warm feelings it gave me. What fan doesn’t enjoy the bonds between Eda and Luz?

Dana Terrace herself and Requiem Cafe in Anaheim worked together in a special limited collaboration to celebrate this fourth anniversary and provide exciting events, merch, and event-themed drinks! It took place from February 3rd to February 17th. On Valentine’s Day, they held their own special Grom emo dance party as well as a panel with Dana and the voice actors at the end of the event. I could not snag tickets for those events, but there was plenty else to experience at the cafe! I visited on the 12th and 18th of February. Later, I found out that Dana Terrace had filmed the event on her Twitch, so I watched that in its entirety as well.

Requiem Cafe is an important place to me, being one of the very few fantasy tea bars that exist in Orange County. They have a beautiful, magical atmosphere that celebrates art with its multiple themed installations, so it’s only fitting that they collaborate with The Owl House. They have done multiple collaborations in the past, such as with Undertale and Crunchyroll, so seeing another major event happen warms my heart.

So here is everything I experienced at this lovely event and my take on how they give The Owl House a proper adaptation!

The  Menu

I was only able to try three of the drinks from the menu (I mainly went for the noncaffeinated varieties), but they were all delightful! Here they are one by one:

The drink I first tried was Titan’s Blood. Just like the substance on the show, it was a bright blue, which was made possible by the butterfly pea tea that was added and flavored with toasted marshmallows and dulce de leche cold foam. I’ve come to be a fan of butterfly pea tea due to this cafe, from the way it mixes well with other flavors to its iridescent blue color. Titan’s Blood sure seems edible, thanks to this drink!

The next drink was the Apple Blood Cider, based on a staple drink in the show. Eda is one of the many characters in The Boiling Isles who is a fan of the drink and consumes it in large quantities, specifically the hard version. However, this version here does not contain alcohol and instead contains spiced cranberry apple cider. The cider was very refreshing and tasty, which helped me gain insight into Eda’s addiction to the drink.

I also tried the Grudgby Captain due to my love of Rose Tea. When I think of Grudgby, it leads me to think of Willow, who is connected to plants like roses and sweet like honey. Willow is also the head of the Grudgby Team at Hexside and the key figure in leading the team together. Having a drink that basically proposes a tribute to her (and a tasty one at that) poses as a delight.

I just now realized there is a whole section of the internet dedicated to Luz showing her friends from The Boiling Isles what human hot chocolate is. I’ve found multitudes of rather endearing artwork and fanfiction centering around this idea. And this leads me to my final drink, the Noceda Heartwarmer, a spicy cinnamon hot chocolate. Since it’s been rather cold recently, it’s a nice drink to help warm you up. Anyone can adore a cup of hot chocolate, so it’s the added cinnamon that makes it special. It’s sweet and spicy, just like Luz herself.

The sweet treat they offered at this event was the Palisman Waffles. I loved their colorful designs, and the red and blue themes, along with the heart sprinkles, really do make me think of the cuddly little sidekicks. Ever since Requiem added ice cream and waffles to their menu, I adore how creative they have been in making the themed treats even on their standard menu. I preferred the blue sea salt ice cream over the strawberry one, but both were good while not being too sweet. The Waffles were rather large, too, and the more I think of it, they could be compared to the wood of a Palisman.

The Ambiance

The Grom area, as pictured above, is what mainly caught my eye as it is a wonderful photo-op area out of the many cutouts they have displayed. It’s also a good hype-up to the Grom Valentine’s event, especially with this scene where we finally see Lumity come to fruition as the two battle in a ballroom dance style.

I also liked their addition of Hexside school banners as I also believe that if Requiem existed within the universe of The Boiling Isles, it would also be a place that the students would frequent after a long day of classes and practicing their magic.

But aside from the cutouts and banners, the decorations were rather minimal.

They also had episodes of the Owl House playing on one of their TVs and music from the show playing over the loudspeakers. It was nice to sit on the couch and rewatch the episodes to refresh my memory of the show. The environment is a comfortable one, so any fan, new or old, is bound to find joy. They did just the right amount of decor to keep it fun but not overwhelming.

The Merch they displayed was also adorable as the art felt like snapshots of moments where the characters were together in their downtimes, simply relaxing. I believe Requiem shall have their themed merch available for a while, so if you get a chance to stop by the cafe, grab them before they’re gone!

The Stream

Thank God for the wonders of the internet and for Dana Terrace streaming the panel on her Twitch! I was happy to catch the announcement on Requiem’s Instagram that they were going to be streaming the event. As I had mentioned before, the tickets sold out quickly. Cissy Jones lead the panel with a massive Hooty plush in tow and hyped up each memeber of the cast with plenty of charm and wit and I love the support the crew all show for each other as they go over the questions submitted from Instagram. They also got a message from the Japanese voice actress Amity, who wished them all well at the event. The moments I loved the best were when Alex Hirsch and Dana Terrace teased at possible crossovers between their stories. I highly recommend watching the stream if you haven’t already!

This event was a nice chance for me to refresh on why I enjoyed The Owl House series and glimpse back into how wonderful the fandom is. All of the artists and voice actors in this project are extremely dedicated and wonderfully creative people. Who doesn’t love a good magical fantasy series about escaping into another world? Requiem for me is my magical escape and I love all their fancy drinks and treats, including the allusions to the Owl House series they provide.

Until the next major collaboration for Requiem, I will be sure to come back and cover it! Did any of you manage to attend this event? Let us know!
