There’s nothing like earning a shiny new platinum trophy after days, weeks, months, and sometimes years of working towards it. The sound of that final trophy popping is met with immediate gratification and keeps you wanting more. While I’m far from a hardcore trophy hunter, I like to try to obtain platinum for games that I really like. Or, at the very least, games for which I feel would be easy.
Trophy hunting is something that all gamers can enjoy. So, I thought I would share some games that might be perfect for beginner trophy hunters.
WHAT IS TROPHY HUNTING?
Xbox and Steam have what’s called “Achievement Hunting,” which is essentially when gamers try to unlock all of the achievements in games in order to increase their gamer score. “Trophy Hunting” is PlayStation’s version of this, as PlayStation has trophies instead of achievements.
Trophies are earned by performing specific tasks within a game that are linked to them. These can be as simple as reaching a certain level with your player character or as tedious as completing a mission in a particular way. Each trophy is either Bronze, Silver, or Gold, depending on its difficulty. But once you earn all of a game’s trophies, you unlock the platinum.
ASTRO’S PLAYROOM
Difficulty: 2/10
ASTRO’s PLAYROOM is an incredibly easy and fun platinum! I played through the game for the first time and got the platinum in one sitting.
ASTRO’s is a free game that all PS5 users have access to. Labeling it as a “tech demo” is easy, but it is so much more than that. It takes players on a tour of the PS5 console, with every stage taking place in a different part of the system’s hardware. ASTRO’s is a love letter to the PlayStation brand, with so many easter eggs and collectibles from throughout PlayStation’s history.
Most of the trophies involve clearing levels, collecting artifacts, and a few miscellaneous activities. But it never feels monotonous or too much like busy work. It’s just pure fun throughout, and it provided me with one of the most memorable gaming experiences I’ve ever had.
LIFE IS STRANGE: TRUE COLORS
Difficulty: 2/10
Life Is Strange: True Colors was one of my personal favorite platinums. I completed the story and earned the platinum in a single weekend. The world and story that Deck Nine Games created are beautiful, cozy, and packed with emotion. Literally.
True Colors introduces Alex Chen to the series, an empath who has the power to see and feel other people’s emotions. Using her powers of empathy, you get to explore and uncover the secrets of Haven Spring, a fictional town in Colorado that serves as the game’s setting and hub.
All of the trophies in True Colors are incredibly easy to get. All you have to do is finish all of the chapters in the game and find all of the collectibles in each chapter, and that’s it! The platinum trophy is yours.
MARVEL’S SPIDER-MAN SERIES
Difficulty: 3/10
Insomniac’s Spider-Man games require a bit more work than the first two games mentioned, but they’re still pretty easy to get.
All three games have very similar trophy lists. You can obtain most of them just by completing the story, finding the collectibles, and doing all the activities in the open world. However, each game will require you to go out of your way for some of the trophies, but it doesn’t require anything too demanding.
If you’re a Spidey fan and you love what Insomniac’s done with their Spider-Man series, I would highly recommend going for these platinums.
THE LAST OF US PART I & II
PART I Difficulty: 2/10 PART II Difficulty: 3/10
The Last of Us is my favorite video game of all time, so getting a full remake of the game (Part I) last year was very exciting. Not only was I able to experience an even better version of a game that I already loved, but I finally got to get the platinum for my favorite game.
Before earning the platinum for The Last of Us Part I, I attempted to do it for The Last of Us Remastered, an updated PS4 version of the original game released on the PS3 back in 2013. I know that The Last of Us franchise has arguably seen an abundance of re-releases in its day. But I wasn’t able to earn the platinum for the remastered version of the game because it was locked behind multiplayer trophies. I’ve heard that Factions is great, but I just didn’t feel like grinding the multiplayer as someone who had hardly ever touched it in the over six years it had been out.
In the meantime, I was able to get the platinum for The Last of Us Part II and had a blast doing it. Then, I did the same thing when Part I came out. The trophy lists for both games are short and sweet, with most of them requiring you to simply play through the game’s story and find collectibles and other excellent secrets. While tedious, it’s also very satisfying to uncover everything, as secrets can be found through fun environmental puzzles or natural exploration. Collectibles aren’t just arbitrarily placed in little nooks and crannies like treasures in Uncharted.
CONCLUSION
These were just a few of the games that I found to be satisfying and fun but not overly exhausting games to platinum. Whether you’re a casual trophy hunter or someone who aspires to platinum every game they own, everyone loves an easy game to help them broaden their digital trophy collection.
This console is a beast. Games run buttery smooth, even at the highest settings, and the graphics are absolutely stunning.
