I am sad that Daryl’s show is coming to an end. Luckily, Fear the Walking Dead will start up shortly afterward to fill that walker void. This episode tried to balance current and past timelines. For simplicity’s sake, I’ll try to keep them separated.
Daryl is out on the road, and he is also out of gas, walking his motorcycle. He is approached by a man in a vehicle, who eventually offers him a chance to get some fuel in exchange for work. Daryl knows he has to engage even though he is very reluctant to do so. At the stranger’s camp, or more so like a trading post, others are gathered for the hope of fuel. The task is to gather walkers that fit specific requirements, with two levels of gas rewards, alive! After day one, a group of guys brings back five total walkers, with one of them worth the higher level of gas. They seem pretty proud of themselves until Daryl comes and slam dunks in their face with about ten or so walkers. This gets the attention of the entire camp and some out-of-place rookie who tries to ask Daryl if he can help, and Daryl replies does it look like I need help?

The naive rookie gets to ‘join’ the established group, or so he thinks. He does the group’s wood cutting for the fire. Meanwhile, Daryl sees a radio and heads over to try to get a connection back home. He briefly gets in touch with Carol, a few things from the conversation, Carol doesn’t seem herself, Daryl says he is in Maine and will be back in about a week, and lastly, Carol says that “he is back,” but Daryl can’t understand who that is.
The next day, the group brought out the kid on the hunt. That was a ruse, though, as they used him, so they could kill him and get the fresh walker bonus when they turned him in at the end of the day. Seeing this group murder the youngster pissed him off, so he punched the leader in the face. One of the outpost’s few rules was no fighting, so Daryl and the man were taken as prisoners. They are put on a boat that has walkers being experimented on, captured walkers, and captured humans. Periodically a living prisoner would be fed to a pit of hungry walkers. With this knowledge, Daryl and the other guy come up with a plan to try to escape. Later on, Daryl pretends he is sick, so the soldiers come and take him from the cage with the thought of feeding him to the walkers. Daryl waits for his moment and throws one soldier in the pit, overpowers another, shoots him in the head with his own gun, and then chokes out and then kills the third.
He grabs the keys before other soldiers are approaching, so Daryl lets open a couple of cages full of walkers before opening the door to his cellmate. They head to the escape boat while the soldiers are trying to fight off the walkers. In the melee, one of the walkers who was being tested is set free from his chains and heads toward the two. This walker was able to walk up, sideways, the stairs in rapid succession, pounce on, claw into his stomach with two sweeping terrifying strikes, and take one bite from him before he set his sights on Daryl. During that scuffle, the boat was released into the water, so as this crazy walker goes after Daryl, he flies over the edge into the water.
The current timeline was considerably more dull. Quinn tries to romance Isabelle, all behind Anna’s back, I feel bad for Anna. She is way too good for a dirtbag like Quinn. Isabelle wants to attack Quinn before she stops, while Anna figures out what Quinn is doing and is obviously upset.
Azlan dies on a telephone pole fighting off walkers in the night, a senseless death, really. Laurent cut the boat loose, all because he didn’t want Daryl to leave and to be alone because he says everyone leaves him. After some tense moments, they head on the road. When the soldiers in the jeep approach, they head off the road. Laurent drops some clues, so Daryl sends Laurent on his way. Unfortunately, Daryl is no match for the numbers game and gets captured, but Laurent surrenders to save Daryl’s life.
Quinn is invited to meet with Genet and thinks that makes him a big man, but in reality, they catch Daryl and have Laurent. Genet knows what Quinn did and secured Laurent and Daryl’s escape from the city by bribing one of her guards. I can’t quite figure out if it was Anna who spilled the beans or Daryl or Laurent. Quinn is thrown in a cell, and Isabelle is crushed to see Daryl captured. Isabelle and Laurent are reunited, Genet wants Laurent to have her vision of some sort of one France, which he doesn’t believe. She gets upset and says they will do what she says.

She goes out and has a talk in front of important members of the area, talks about France, and talks about enemies. Daryl is an enemy who must die, so they bring Daryl out of his cell and into an arena. They give him an ax and bring in a crazy walker, he is injected with something by a dart in the neck and starts convulsing. Once that stops, the guards are ready to free him, to slaughter Daryl essentially. This walker has things moving around under its skin on its face, has a raging attitude and look to it, and then rushes towards Daryl.
