All right, let’s go over this one last time. His name is Miles Morales, he was bitten by a radioactive spider, and since 2018, he’s been his universe’s one and only Spider-Man. He watched his universe’s Peter Parker die, met an alternate version of Peter, met a version of Gwen Stacy with spider powers, and then met even more versions of Peter. He watched his Uncle die, learned how to use his powers, saved the universe, and brought the guy who killed his Peter to justice. That, and he was the star of one of the greatest superhero films of all time, Into the Spider-Verse

Calling Into the Spider-Verse one of the best superhero films ever made is almost a disservice to it. It’s a love letter to a hero that millions have loved for the past sixty years. I was lucky enough to see it in theaters, and I couldn’t stop singing its praises afterward. People wouldn’t stop talking about it. When the Spider-Man: Miles Morales game came out, people rushed to recreate “What’s Up, Danger?”

So, when Sony revealed the new trailer for the sequel, the Internet broke. Across the Spider-Verse promises to be bigger, crazier, and more epic than Into the Spider-Verse.

Return to the Spider-Verse

“Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar®-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.”

That’s the basic rundown of what the next chapter in the Spider-Verse story, and the Internet’s going crazy over it. And for a good reason. Sony and Marvel seem intent on bringing all hands on deck for this, calling on alternate versions of the Spider heroes throughout the multiverse. From the Japanese Tonkatsu show of the 70s to the Peter Parker from the Insomniac Games, the film doesn’t show any signs of holding back.

There are other Spider heroes in Marvel’s catalog besides Peter Parker, though. Across the multiverse, others have become their world’s version of the wall-crawler. I could make a whole list of those who have taken Peter’s place, but I’m certain they’ll pop up in Across the Spider-Verse.

Miles Morales Will Be in the Big Leagues

Since his debut ten years ago, Miles Morales has become a fan-favorite character. With the success of the Insomniac Games and Into the Spider-Verse, Miles has become almost as famous as Peter Parker, the OG Spider-Man. However, given the final moments of the trailer, it seems like Miles will be coming to blows with many of them.

What happens to cause this remains this unknown. However, it will be a thrill to see how Miles fares with the big boys.

I, for one, am hyped about this film. Between this and the next Spider-Man game by Insomniac, 2023 will be a good year for Spider-Fans. The Spider-Verse is back and bigger than ever!
