The Borderlands series has always been a game close to my heart. It is the ultimate couch coop game that my husband and I have spent hundreds of hours playing. One of my favorite DLCs was from Borderlands 2, Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep. It combined high-fantasy D&D and guns, which is always a hit. So, when I heard Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands was in the works, I immediately pre-ordered it. It has been everything I wanted it to be and more.

The Story

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands follows the story of the Fatemaker as they work alongside Captain Valentine and Frette. Guided by DM Tiny Tina, they must work together to destroy the evil Dragon Lord. The Dragon Lord is a powerful necromancer here to end the reign of good in the realm. After being constantly defeated by Queen Butt Stallion and the Party of Heroes, he is ready to take the game into his own hands. Players come into the game as a noob to D&D and must hack and slash their way to victory. Will good reign supreme, or will evil continue to loom over the land?

After longingly staring out the window for my copy of Wonderlands to arrive, the time had finally come. My husband and I put on our most comfortable sweatpants, darkened the house, and popped in the game. We were met with beautiful graphics and some of the most talented voice acting imageable. Hopping into character creation was like filling out a D&D character sheet. There is so much to customize; we had a blast making a perfect character. My husband went for an Elven Graveborn build while I stuck with a Brr-Zerker with an Air Genasi vibe. He has thoroughly enjoyed the spooky necromancer skills. On the other hand, I was surprised by my love for the tanky magic-user. I typically prefer non-magic builds; however, it works well in this game.

The mechanics were similar to other titles in the Borderlands series and were easy to pick up. However, the loot was new and exciting. Pistols looked like crossbows, and I found a Torgue gun that shot swords instead of bullets. To say that I have been satisfied with the loot collection would be an understatement. In addition, the side quests have been top-notch thus far! We have run into a few familiar faces, which is always an exciting time. One specific mission tied back to Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep. Without giving too much away, I would like to say it left me grinning ear-to-ear. Overall, Wonderlands has been a journey so far, and I love every minute.
