Spoilers will be talked about below, so please be sure to watch the latest episode before reading on! This review is based off of the dub version of Super that currently airs on Toonami.
Episode 103 was one of the more frantic episodes of the Tournament Of Power saga so far as we saw more of the clash between Universe 7 and 2 on top of another universe getting wiped out from existence. So what went down between Universe 7 and 2 and which universe bit the dust by the end? Let’s get into our review and find out!
We open up the episode exactly where we left off with 17 facing off against the red fighter from Universe 2. They don’t start fighting right away though, the red one accuses 17 for being a villain due to him eliminating two of Universe 2’s fighters in Episode 102. Beerus and all the others in the stands clearly see that 17 is just toying with her though, and that he is. 17 totally gets into a Sailor Moon like villain mode and starts talking more outlandish to rile up the red one and it works! They start fighting and are strangely evenly matched.
Elsewhere, Goku is fighting the yellow one from Universe 2 and he’s still caught up in her rapid fire ki blast attack — things look bleak for him with even Beerus yelling from the sidelines for Goku to get out of there. Goku eventually gets surrounded by the ki blast attack, but is rescued by 17 at the last second who dives in to save him. Afterwards Goku and 17 are about to team on the yellow and red one but then those two are saved by Universe 2’s Yadart alien fighter who Instant Transmissions the two girls away to fight again later. Goku and 17 go their separates ways after this as the battle rages on.
Meanwhle, Gohan and Piccolo are against Botamo of Unvierse 6 with Gohan stepping up agains the giant gummy bear. Gohan just keeps punching away at Botamo, but due to Botamo’s ability of just absorbing hits nothing is happening. Beerus is yelling in the sidelines for Gohan to do something better, as Unvierse 6’s Champa is just laughing from his spot in the stands at his brother. Goku shows up eventually and starts talking to Piccolo about Gohan and his strategy against Botamo. Gohan just keeps punching him though, yet something happens. With each rapid hit Gohan does he’s able to lift Botamo slightly above the ground and begins pushing him backwards off the stage!
Botamo can’t even hit Gohan with a counter blast attack since Gohan is so close, Botamo’s large belly can’t let him hit Gohan at all. Eventually Gohan lifts Botamo even further into the air while dangerously close to the stage and Gohan knocks Botamo finally off the stage. Botamo suddenly fires another beam at Gohan to take the Saiyan with him but Gohan simply blocks it as Botamo is eliminated falling off. Goku, after being pleased by this elimination, heads off to see what the other members of Universe 7 are up too.
Gohan and Piccolo though, have another scuffle to deal with against two of Universe 10’s final fighters that pop up — the same Yadart alien of Universe 2, in a quick cutaway, eliminated another of Universe 10’s fighters. Here it’s not a 2 on 2 fight at all and instead a one on one fight. Piccolo fights the long hair one and easily defeats him by using the Hellzone Grenade attack and tosses him out. Gohan on the other hand is fighting the older, green one and is having a tough time.
This is due to this Universe 10 fighters ability to separate his Ki from his movement, which counters exactly how Gohan fights by sensing his opponents ki and visibly seeing them. So this green fighter has the perfect advantage and is landing hits on Gohan left and right, with the saiyan unable to fight back. Beerus, Whis and the Kais are providing commentary with Beerus worried out of his mind. And the same is said for Unvierse 10’s Gowasu and their God of Destruction, as Whis’ youngest sister is also depressively sad by her universe is doing with just only one fighter left.
Eventually Gohan begins to tank each hit and then counters back — Whis says that this is Gohan’s best bet to win to everyone and he’s right! Gohan starts getting the advantage, cause after getting hit he’s able to figure out where the green fighter is. Eventually so much so that Gohan can easily blast him off with a Kamehameha getting an elimination. However, due to this, Universe 10 was completely wiped out from existence by the omni-kings, with the only thing left being a pocket watch that fell out of the Universe 10 fighter. The episode ends on this bleak note, but leaves a potential match up between Universe 6’s Hit and Universe 11’s Pride Trooper, Despero as the two stare off against each other.
I really liked the episode due to the fact that for the first time, they didn’t show Gohan as being too weak or easily beaten by a cheap move. They let Gohan be more tactical of a fighter compared to both Goku and Vegeta being straightforward fighters. They should let Gohan be more like this going forward just to show a different style of fighter in the show — the closest we ever got to this is actually 17, but even he gets carried away and becomes too cocky like in last week’s episode. The only drawback to the episode though was that a few fight scenes had reused animation like the multiple times it showed 17 fighting against Universe 2’s red one or when Goku fought against Unvierse 2’s yellow one near the start of the episode.
I don’t think another universe will be eliminated in next week’s episode but I’m looking forward to the Hit and Despero fight happening. Just hope it’s not a quick 5 minute thing before they switch to someone else, they tend to do that often in here. Sigh.
