Don’t you ever wonder what happened again with all the characters which have come by in the many episodes that Gotham has had so far? Many of them were only present for an episode or two and that while some of them had so much potential to be more than ‘just’ an episode filler or a name mentioned a couple of times. But without further ado, here are a couple of characters that you might have forgot existed in season 1. The episode titles mentioned are the first episodes where the character appeared on screen.
Aubrey James (Ep: ‘Pilot’)
James was the mayor of Gotham City starting in season 1 up until season 3. In that time he never really made himself very popular with the public. He lost two/three elections in that time but was reinstated again after Penguin disappeared in season 3, probably because there was no other option at the time. Many times, he was also the subject to a vast number of attacks, although he always seems to get out of them practically unharmed. For example, he was caught in the middle of the power struggle between Don Falcone and Sal Maroni in season 1, worked together with the Court of Owls and was arrested for the conspiracy around the Wayne murders, but was released. He was also kidnapped a couple of times: by Theo Galavan so he could become mayor, and by the Riddler for information about the Court of Owls. Of screen, he was replaced by Mayor Burke after the chaos caused by the Alice Tetch virus and wasn’t mentioned again.
Liza (Ep: ‘Arkham’)
Liza was a singer who auditioned for Fish Mooney’s nightclub but was later selected to seduce Carmine Falcone because she looked just like her mother. After he let her in, she had to complete tasks for Fish and get close to Falcone. Sometime later she is kidnapped by Fish from Falcone’s mansion and is used as Fish’s lever to force Falcone into a quiet life in the countryside. It is Penguin who tells Fish her plans to Falcone and he strangles Liza in Fish’s nightclub once he realizes the accusations were true.
Kristen Kringle (Ep: ‘Spirit of the Goat’)
In season 1 Kristen Kringle is the record keeper of the GCPD who Edward Nygma develops a crush on. However at first, she is dating an officer called Arnold Flass, but he is arrested for running a drugs operation. Just when Nygma thinks he makes a chance and wants to ask her out, she already has a new boyfriend Officer Tom Dougherty. When Nygma discovers that Dougherty is beating her, his evil persona takes over and kills Dougherty and he secretly gets rid of his body. Though a couple of riddles he is able to convince her into dating him. During a date, Kristen confesses that she is still scared of Dougherty and that he might come back one day. Nygma then reveals that he killed Dougherty. At first, Kristen laughed, believing it was a joke, but when Nygma showed her Dougherty’s badge she starts to believe him. Because she can’t escape, she then was pinned to the door and was inadvertently choked to death by Nygma, who was concurrently reassuring her that he only killed Dougherty in self-defence. Nygma’s dark side takes over to hide the body in the GCPD, to later cut her body up and bury in a woodland. Nygma is later sent to Arkham after Lee Thompkins figures out what happened to Kristen. It is unknown what happened to her corpse after Nygma’s arrest.
Harvey Dent (Ep: ‘Harvey Dent’)
Harvey Dent was brought to James Gordon’s attention as one of the few non-corrupt lawyers in Gotham City. Dent uses the eyewitnesses of the Wayne murders to go after the corrupt billionaire Dick Lovecraft. Even if he wasn’t responsible, it would help to get people talking. After Lovecraft threatened him, Dent snapped at him telling him that he would rip him to pieces, in a spur from his regular persona. After it is his fault that Selina is almost killed by assassins from Lovecraft, both Gordon and Dent are punished for their actions. Dent also blackmailed Bullock into retracting his statement in order to release a rogue cop and supported Theo Galavan in his early days as running for mayor. When Gordon could use his help when he is imprisoned in Blackgate Penitentiary, Dent looks into getting the case reopened, but Gordon escapes without his help. To this day we haven’t heard what became of Harvey Dent and sadly will never see him turn into Two-Face.
Dr Marks (Ep: ‘Spirit of the Goat’)
Dr Marks was a therapist to both Randall Milkie and Raymond Earl hypnotizing both into becoming the Spirit of the Goat. She let the Spirit of the Goat murder the firstborn children of Gotham wealthiest because the believed that they were the reason there was no hope left in the city. She was discovered by Bullock who saw Raymond Earl having the same hand movements as a previous convict Robert Hastings. After Dr Marks was discovered she attempted to have Hastings kill Bullock only she got shot in the leg by Bullock before she was arrested. Her current whereabouts are unknown. It is most likely that she was sent to Blackgate or even Arkham.
Richard Sionis (Ep: ‘The Mask’)
Richard Sionis was the owner and CEO of Sionis Investments. This company had a strange way of hiring new staff where they would force male applicants into an abandoned office building, where they would fight each other with their bare hands and office supplies until one of them had come out on top. When the GCPD starts to investigate this business, James Gordon is kidnapped and needs to fight for his life with the remaining three applicants. When Gordon wins, Sionis tried to kill Gordon himself, but was defeated as well and arrested. Later in season 2, we see Sionis in Arkham Asylum where he was broken out by Tabitha Galavan as part of The Maniax. When he refuses to participate, he is killed by Tabitha.
Francis Dulmacher (Ep: ‘Everyone Has A Cobblepot’)
Francis Dulmacher, also known as The Dollmaker, is a doctor who kidnaps people for organ harvesting. At first, he uses homeless people before his henchmen abduct Fish Mooney to his facility. Mooney soon organized the prisoners and began leading them to acts of defiance against the Dollmaker’s staff. When Fish Mooney organizes a breakout and Dollmaker has her cornered, the unlocked prison cell enabled the other prisoners to get free, knocking out and wounding Dollmaker in the process. The current status of the Dollmaker is currently unknown. Because his facility is not located within the Gotham borders, it is most likely that he continued his business and takes people from a different city.
Jason Skolimski (Ep: ‘Beasts of Prey’)
Jason Skolimski is more known as The Ogre or The Don Juan Killer, was a serial killer who targets young, attractive, successful women. Before he kills them, he forces them to stay in his apartment for weeks or months pretending to be in a relationship before they do something to displease him. When dumping the bodies, he leaves behind a hand-made drawing of a broken heart. This has continued for around 8 years because whenever Jason Skolimski finds out his murders are being investigated, he goes after the loved ones of the detectives handling them. After Jason meets Barbara in a bar and spending a night with her he reveals to her that he is a serial killer. Jason forces Barbara to go to her parent’s home and kill them. When Gordon and Bullock arrive, Gordon shoots Jason into his forehead, however, when he tumbles, Barbara’s throat accidentally gets slit in the process. Despite his death, Jason’s insanity lives on through Barbara due to the trauma and torture he inflicted on her.
Jack Buchinsky (Ep:’Rogues’ Gallery’)
Jack Buchinsky, also known as Jack Gruber and the Electrocutioner, is a former patient of Arkham Asylum. He escaped along with Aaron Danzig during a prison riot. Before being admitted at Arkham, he conducted a series of violent bank robberies that cost six bystanders their lives. With the help of Salvatore Maroni, he got admitted to Arkham under an alias. During his time in Arkham, James Gordon figures out that Jack Buchinsky is performing electro-therapy experiments on Arkham inmates. Eventually, he performed a successful experiment on Aaron Danzig, who now obeyed Buchinsky’s every command and both of them escape the asylum. After escaping Arkham, Buchinsky began tracking down and murdering some of the people who had betrayed him when he was arrested. Because Gordon figures out that Jack might go after his old boss Maroni, he sets up a trap. In the GCPD Jack is electrocuted when Gordon throws the liquid from a coffee mug on his devices, causing them to malfunction. He is still alive and arrested, but more information is not given. The assumption is that he is either back in Arkham or even Blackgate.
