We’re just a few weeks away from the American release of Dragon Ball Super: Broly in theaters on January 16, 2019. And the movie is shaping up to be something big for long time Dragon Ball fans.

Broly will be the first actual continuation of Dragon Ball Super, that originally ended its run with the conclusion of the Tournament Of Power arc; which wrapped up in Japan earlier this spring and is currently underway stateside as dubs on Toonami.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly will, as the title of it gives away, focus on the Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly and his vengence-fueled invasion of earth. This is actually the first time Broly will be a part of the main canon story of Dragon Ball’s lore. His previous movie entries of Dragon Ball Z: Broly, The Return Of Broly and Bio-Broly were actually all non-canon stories.

In the new movie, Broly has a completely redesigned look with the only thing carrying over is the fact that when he enters his Legendary Super Saiyan form, his hair will turn green. Also from how the trailers say it, he is actually immensely stronger then the Super Saiyan Blue forms of Vegeta and Goku! Speaking of our heroes, Vegeta and Goku will also be sporting new looks, like wearing tracksuits and may even sport a new power level or two to combat the fight off the powerful villain.

The plot itself will actually focus on the three saiyans and even cover events that predate the entire Dragon Ball Saga by showing life on Planet Vegeta before Frieza destroyed the planet. Here we’ll meet Goku’s parents alongside Vegeta’s own parents and see a different side of the doomed planet. This may effectively change a lot of lore for the series that we’ve come to known so far and perhaps even streamline or add to it!

Speaking of Frieza though, he’s also set to make a return in the movie and will go toe-to-toe against Broly. For you see, slight spoilers but Frieza is now roaming about the galaxy again and is the sole reason why Broly is on a warpath. But what do the gods have to say about Broly’s actions? Well, you’re in luck cause for the first time ever, Whis is actually entering the fight against Broly!

As you can see, there’s a lot of things happening in Dragon Ball Super: Broly. I’m salivating at the thought of all the fan service and insane fight scenes this movie will bring on release. January, 16 can’t come soon enough!
