With one month left until the Incredibles 2 premier, Disney Pixar put out a new trailer a week ago. Let’s break it down.
It starts out with Helen Parr/Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) doing some more bad-ass stuff as part of her job as a new super-advocate – i.e. riding motorcycles and swinging from helicopters. Violet just has to point out to her dad, Bob Parr/Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson), that aren’t supers still illegal? Bob, like a pro, avoids the question and changes the subject.
Helen asks Bob on a phone call if things have “spiraled out of control” since she left. Noooo, he tells her. Cut to Jack-Jack using his heat vision to cut the grass as he tries to chase a raccoon. “Oh my god,” says Bob staring at his son in shock. I think it’s safe to say he didn’t know his son had heat-vision before this. This may even be the first time that he realizes that Jack-Jack has powers. We then see the same clip we’ve seen before of Bob baiting a floating, teleporting Jack-Jack with a cookie, but this time with a little more footage, showing Samuel L. Jackson’s Frozone saying that the baby “looks normal” to him, before freaking out as Jack-Jack teleports away.
“Supers are no longer in control,” a mysterious man in a metal mask says on a TV screen. I’m assuming he’s the bad guy. But here’s something new, a man and a woman jump through a portal, blasting back the Incredibles family. They’re dressed as supers and they clearly have powers. One of them we know is Voyd (Sophia Bush), who has the power to make objects disappear and reappear elsewhere by opening up voids, probably similarly to the one she just jumped through. She’s also a huge Elastigirl fan. It’s unclear though who her partner is, as that information hasn’t been released by Disney yet. Perhaps its Winston Deavor (the benefactor of this new super intiative) in disguise. He has seemed a little slimy in past trailers.
“Suit up,” Mr. Incredible tells Frozone. Looks like the men are finally getting in the game. Past trailers have mostly shown them trying to take care of the family while Helen is away, but part of the fun of The Incredibles is watching the whole family come and work together to fight the villain. To add to that we finally see Dash and Violet “suit up” themselves and jump into the fray. “It’s up to us,” says Violet. They steal a car, and we see them working with Frozone later.
Finally, the moment we have all been waiting for, Jack-Jack in his super-suit! Ok, I’m hooked.
The Incredibles 2 is out June 15. Don’t miss it!
