“It was a dark and stormy night. In her attic bedroom Meg Murry, wrapped in an old patchwork quilt, sat on the foot of her bed and watched the trees tossing in the frenzied lashing of the wind.”
We have been following this movie and freaking out over every new glimpse into Ava’s universe since the day it was announced.
Now, we’re in the final stretch & the excitement is getting to be too much!
The movie will be release on March 9th – which is exactly a month away!!!
Mindy Kaling, Oprah Winfrey, & Reese Witherspoon are about to hit the big screen and play wise all-knowing magical creatures.
Storm Reid is about to be a hero to so many young black girls & ignite in them the courage and the strength that they possess.
Seeing Storm as Meg being a warrior, saving her dad, facing her fears, and most importantly seeing themselves represented on screen is going to create a cultural shift for these girls & I’m so happy that they get the representation that I & many others never got as a child, I could cry just writing this paragraph.
Ava Duvernay’s journey is also inspirational in its own right and she has paved the way for so many WOC, both by her accomplishments and by her very conscious efforts to surround herself with the most inclusive cast & crew.
Peep the newest trailer below and please flock to the theatres to support this film – show the studios with your hard earned cash that a WOC led sci-fi movie has widespread appeal (duh) & make them want to do better.
