The Golden Globes took a serious turn this year, and for a good reason. It was all about the Time’s Up Movement, which focuses on women’s rights and sexual harassment and assault. To gather the community together, all the women decided to wear black in honor of the movement. And even the men came out supporting the women too.

Even though it really wasn’t about the fashion this year, I still would like to give a shout out to my 5 best dressed of the night, along with some men.

Alison Brie is wearing a Vassilis Zoulias gown and it was more than meets the eye. It looked like an ordinary gown, but actually, Alison was wearing pants underneath. When explaining her ensemble, she said, “Tonight is about women wearing the pants so I chose to literally wear the pants” (The New York Times).

Allison Janney wore a Mario Dice gown and it was really eye-catching. I liked that it had some white detailing and the cutouts made it look really fresh. It was daring without being vulgar. And a HUGE congrats to her for winning Best Supporting Actress!

Emilia Clarke wore Miu Miu and I think it looked perfect and elegant on her. It was a very simple dress, but it fit amazingly. I liked the cute bow detail below the bust and her jewelry didn’t overpower. As for the makeup, the pop of color, with the pink lipstick was a nice choice.

Greta Gerwig was another big winner, with Lady Bird winning for Best Comedy/Musical. She wore an Oscar de la Renta, and I loved her dressed because it was a-symmetrical, with the one shoulder strap. Even though her dress was also simple, her statement necklace was perfect. It brought everything else to life.

Dakota Johnson wore a Gucci gown and it really shined on the red carpet. From the front, it’s very minimal, with what looks like a belt. But once she turned around, everything changed. It had that gorgeous glittery train and the jeweled detailing was mesmerizing. It really was a show stopper.

Now some honorable mentions from the men…

OT Fagbenle Luke wore a Musika Frère tuxedo. And it’s not just the tux that I love, it’s that he took a risk with his shoes. He wore loafers with no socks and I think it made the look very fashion forward.

Chris Hemsworth wore an Etro tuxedo and he took a huge risk by wearing a tux with a pattern on it. I think it really works on him and he decided to make the look more casual, by not wearing a tie. I think it really stands out from the rest of the plain tuxes that were on the carpet.

Armie Hammer also went with a textured blazer and I applaud him. I also love that instead of having a pocket square, he added a nice black flower to his lapel. I also liked that he opted for a white shirt instead of black.
