8 Years Ago Dwight From The Office Wrote A Book

Soul Pancake is a book that came out back in 2010. I hate to admit it but the way I heard about it was in the bookstore sadly overhearing a conversation that went along the lines of this: “Hey, Dwight from the Office wrote a book!”, “Really, I bet it’s so funny and all about beets and stuff!”. Yes, that was the actual conversation! So I waited around until the two young gentlemen left the section the book was in and then made my way over. Yes, it was true! Rainn Wilson who plays Dwight Schrute on the TV show The Office plus a couple others did indeed have a book out. I took a quick glance through and it looked like it was going to be an interesting read, so I added the book to my never ending book collection and I am happy I did.

Based on the website SoulPancake.com, the book is about philosophy, spirituality, love, truth, science, and so much more. It’s full of great questions, hard challenges, and unique art. It’s a different kind of read, one that after awhile you even forget you are reading a book. Inside the intriguing pages you will find:
•A thoughtful Introduction by Rainn Wilson
*Art from over 90+ artists
•Exclusive commentary from: Amy Sedaris, David Lynch, Heather Armstrong (Dooce.com), Dr. Drew, Jesse Dylan, Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Harold Ramis, Josh Ritter, and Saul Williams And 180 of Life’s big questions.

The site got its start in part because of Dwight Schrute, the fictional Scranton, Pennsylvania, paper salesman/beet farmer/bed and breakfast proprietor/landlord who Wilson plays on the show. As Dwight became a bankable and beloved character, Wilson wanted to capitalize on his fame and do something meaningful.

“We’re trying to create a community of people searching. They’re searching along life’s path. Back when we started it, it was pre-Facebook, it was in the Myspace days. Social networking was about hooking up, not connecting on a more meaningful level,” he said.

“I wanted to do something positive on the internet, especially for young fans of ‘The Office.’ I wanted to start a site that I would have really liked as a college-age kid”

Well I think he nailed it with this book!

If you haven’t gone and read or bought the book, I really recommend you do. You won’t be disappointed. Soul Pancake is also one of New York Times best sellers.
