uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh! Guys! Last week I said literally nothing good happened on Younger, well they continued this streak by having literally everything bad happen in the season finale.
First let’s talk about what goes in in New York. Zane and Kelsey are butting heads more than ever now that they have to work together. He totally silences her during a meeting and pitches Kelsey’s marketing strategy on GMA as his own. He adds that he wants Charles to appear on screen with Pauline to talk about their reconciliation but Charles is against it and Kelsey is vehement that they don’t need to exploit Charles’ private life for sales. When they get to GMA, the producer is not feeling the lukewarm segment (side-note I think Pauline might be a little boring?) so she threatens to cut the segment early, promoting Zane to ~sneakily~ give her permission to have the hosts taunt Charles live and pressure him to come on. Bae plasters on his smile and puts on a show for the cameras but after the segment he is fuuuuuming! Zane immediately throws Kelsey under the bus, now claiming it was all her idea and the producer was her contact (even though in the meeting he sang a different tune.) Charles is all ugh these kids and storms off.

In the car with Pauline, he admits that he doesn’t think they’re back together yet, that they’re a work in progress and that he needs time. He then pulls out his phone and starts texting Liza about GMA – writing that it wasn’t his idea and most importantly he starts typing “I WISH YOU COULD HAVE BEEN THERE” but then he stops himself and erases the whole text and ughhhh Team Charles is such an angsty place to live.
Now let’s get to Liza and her Irish Green Card Marriage adventures. Josh calls in the middle of the night and tells her to come to Ireland with him and Clare because they’re getting married. She’s like WTF but she wakes Maggie up and together they head off. Josh is sort of cold to her in Ireland and she hangs out with Clare a lot. She finds out that they’re mostly getting married so Clare can come back to New York and they can keep dating to see where it can go…and they only invited her so she can lie for them, to everyone in Ireland who doesn’t know it’s a Green Card marriage and to Homeland Security when the questions arise. I’m gonna say it right now, Clare seems sketchy to me and I don’t trust her and Josh deserves better! Liza sorta agrees to go along with the lie, after Clare mentions it’s just like how Liza lied about her age (HE TOLD HER?!) and that she basically owes him.

Liza is feeling more and more uncomfortable though and tries to confront Josh about this being a bad idea. He won’t hear her though and storms off. The night before the wedding, they have this giant party at a bar and Clare and Liza dance an Irish jig together, Josh looks on adoringly at Clare but then he looks at Liza and everything slows and he’s clearly still in love with her. That night, drunk-ass Josh shows up to Liza’s room and proclaims his love for her and tries to make-out with her. Liza had just finished watching the GMA segment about Marriage Vacation, not knowing that Charles did not want to do that or that he and Pauline are not back together IRL so she’s sorta responsive to Drunk Joshes advances. He ends up just falling asleep in her bed and they spoon, but before he does he says he has to tell Clare that he can’t marry her.
Liza wakes up the next morning pretty convinced that there isn’t going to be a wedding but then Maggie comes in telling her that they’re late and showing her through the window that everyone is already ready. Liza finds Josh at the wedding (a no phones wedding, the worst) and he confesses that his heart keeps going back to her so he needs to put a ring in between them to allow himself to move on…it’s cute but I don’t know if getting married quick is a good fix, maybe just stop hanging out with her for a while first…So all this to say, Josh and Clare get married, Liza is overcome with emotion in the audience, and because it’s a no phone wedding, she misses a call from Charles at the very end WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN A LOVE DECLARATION CALL.

So now you know that I wasn’t being dramatic when I said everything bad happened. Kelsey was undermined, Charles is lovesick and being ambushed by this book, and Liza watched the man she loved marry a sneaky bitch (probably, I’m not sure yet). The only people that had a good week were Diana and Maggie; Diana because she wore these gorgeous earrings one day, and Maggie slept with the mother of the bride.
Stay tuned to TGON for all the Younger gossip while we wait for the next season to premiere!
