Game releases in 2026 are shaping up to be pretty good, especially for indie games that seem to come out of nowhere and do really well. While most of the super highly anticipated games are reserved for the end of the year, namely GTA6, May 2026 does have some exciting titles that many gamers have been looking forward to playing. This list will by no means cover all the games will come out in May 2026, but most of the popular releases will be named as well as some standout “dark horses.” Please also note that this list is not a review of all the games lists and is not indicative of how good each game will actually be, but is just mentioning these games’ names, shorts descriptions, and release dates in May. Now, here’s that list of game releases in chronological order.

Mixtape – May 7: Soon to be high school graduates got on one last escapade together with a mixtape of their favorite songs. This narrative game takes the player through the memories of the characters that each song evokes. Coming out on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch 2, and PC.

Outbound – May 11: A unique modern take on a crafting survival game, Outbound has players creating their own Van home to live off the grid while also traveling around in their constantly changing mobile home. Coming out on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC.

Directive 8020: A Dark Pictures Game – May 12: A colony ship called the Cassiopeia crash lands on a potential new home for humanity. Players must fend off aliens while also trying to carve out a livable habitat for the rest of humanity. Coming out on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.

Subnautica 2 – May 14: The second installment of this incredibly popular series, players must survive and explore a hostile aquatic planet to discover why their ship crashed and if humans cohabitate with the alien creatures around them. Coming out on Xbox and PC.

Forza Horizon 6 – May 15: Set in Japan, a Forza racing game emerges. Players can customize their rides and race on tracks around the Mount Fuji, cherry blossom filled streets, and other iconic parts of Japan. Coming out on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.

Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core – May 20: The newest game in this ever-expanding series, this game is a multiplayer roguelike that has players explore the planet Hoxxes IV, solve puzzles, restore mines, and stop the enemies from halting mine production. Coming out on PC in early access.

Thick as Thieves – May 20: In a 1910s industrial city, players choose from different thieves to play as and steal valuable items, but there is a catch. In this multiplayer stealth game, all the players are pitted against each other all trying to steal the same item, whoever successfully nabs it without getting caught wins. Coming out on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.

Coffee Talk Tokyo – May 21: Set in a coffee shop in Tokyo, players run a social coffee shop as a barista while also learning about the customers and nurturing relationships all within the coffee shop. Coming out on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC.

Luna Abyss – May 21: Sentenced to explore fallen colony, players are prisoners that are tasked with recovering lost technologies and finding the reason why the colony fell, all this while being overseen by a deadly AI prison warden. Coming out on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.

Starbites – May 21: Trapped on a distant and dusty planet, players are salvagers that must make robots to fight by their side to survive the harsh desert planet Bitter. In this turn-based RPG, players discover the secrets of Bitter while trying to find a way off the planet. Coming out on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book – May 21: From the Super Mario series, Yoshi meets a talking book that fell from the sky that speaks of strange creatures. Playing as this curious Yoshi, players take to the skies to discover the species in that book. Coming out on Switch 2.

Zero Parades: For Dead Spies – May 21: As a spy, players must infiltrate powerful and corrupt corporations to discover their hidden agendas and expose their secrets, all while not getting caught and find potential allies. Coming out on PlayStation and PC.

Bubsy 4D – May 22: The Bubsy franchise is finally back after 30 years! Players take on a new Bubsy adventure by platforming through an alien world with all new mechanics, technology, and story. Coming out on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, and PC.

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight – May 22: Starting as Young Bruce Wayne, players fight through all the stories of the Batman series and mold Gotham City into their own image in this lego world. Coming out on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch 2, and PC.

007 First Light – May 27: From the James Bond movies, play as young James Bond as he begins his journey through the double 0 program, takes on impossible tasks, and becomes the most iconic spy in the world. Coming out on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch 2, and PC.
