After what’s felt like ages, “The Vampire Lestat” fans finally have a release date to look forward to. IGN Fan Fest 2026 hit the ground running with a whirlwind of announcements pertaining to gaming, movies, and TV. Among the announcements was a special teaser fans of the blood-sucking side of Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe were eagerly anticipating. Leading up to the teaser’s release, fans weren’t sure what to expect. Likely not a full-length trailer but would it be another compilation of never-before-seen scenes like that released at Comic Con? Turns out, it was something even better.
Rather than short clips, fans were blessed with what seems to be the opening scene of season three’s first episode, running a little over three minutes in length. The scene gave viewers a peek into what to expect from this season’s atmosphere and the dynamics between the characters. And the best part? As the scene fades to black and the title card appears to the sound of gritty guitar chords, we learned that “The Vampire Lestat” will officially hit screens in June of this year. Now, let’s sink our teeth into this new content and hope it tides us over until the next teasers drop.
A New Side to Familiar Characters
The clip opens with a black screen, static, and a very familiar voice for fans of the previous two seasons. A man’s voice introduces viewers to what he dubs “The Failures: Album 8, Side A.” The voice does sound a bit like our bright young reporter, Daniel Malloy, upon first listen. However, it could be a completely different character we’ve yet to meet. Is this one of Lestat’s albums he will put out as he takes on his new rockstar lifestyle? And why lead this scene with that voiceover? There have been some “leaked” episode titles floating around the internet and one of them is entitled “The Failures.” However, the validity of this leak isn’t clear just yet.
Moving on from the cryptic opening, we cut to outside view of a window looking in on a person playing the drums. Is this Lestat? Not quite. We quickly shift indoors to a dimly lit room interspersed with warm lamps and vibrantly artistic decor. And we finally get our first glimpse of the man himself, Lestat de Lioncourt. He sits at the piano playing and vocalizing softly. Immediately, viewers will recognize Lestat but a different side to him. Given the state this character was in at the end of last season, it’s refreshing to see him looking calm, put together, and surrounded by a space that reflects his personality.
Louis and Lestat’s Burgeoning Reconnection
That is when we meet Louis again. This is an unexpected and welcome surprise, even if we only see him through the screen of Lestat’s iPad. Lestat’s request for input on his music spirals into a back and forth between the two that feels both nostalgic and new. The banter and playful jabs take viewers back to those early days of their relationship, before everything crumbled around them. Yet, there’s also a new comfort in the way they speak, as well as a slight hesitance, that makes you feel like these characters are relearning each other as much as we are them.
With a simple “come to me,” Lestat invites Louis to visit him at his new home in what we learn is Montreal, Canada. It’s clear these two have been communicating at least to some extent in the duration between their tearful reunion in season two and the start of season three. The callback lines like “come to me” and Louis’s playful jab at Lestat’s “I am she, she is me” reckon with the complicated past they share, softening its edges just a touch.
A Book Release and a Reality Hit
Unfortunately, we aren’t left to enjoy this newfound amicability for very long. A notification leads Lestat’s wandering eyes to an article with Mr. Daniel Malloy’s photo plastered on the front. This is how we learn that Lestat has had no knowledge of the book this entire time. And it’s back to arguing as we watch Lestat rush down the street to a bookstore, all the while Louis attempting to explain in his ear. As Lestat flips the pages of “Interview with the Vampire” with increasing irritation, we get a glimpse of the fandom surrounding the novel. A conversation in Québécois between two booksellers reveals the humorous side of the show. It even pokes fun at real life fan culture, referencing people lining up to view Armand in “Adoration of the Shepard with Donor” at the Louvre.
A Tonal Shift But Not a Departure
This teaser revealed just enough for fans to feel satiated while also craving for more. But what it did best was offer a taste of the new season’s atmosphere that should put skeptics at ease. Since the new season was announced, with a name change to boot, some fans have worried that the show would make too drastic of a tonal shift. What this scene proved was that “The Vampire Lestat” will shift the tone but not depart from the heart of the story. We see a new side to these characters; We see a calmer, more grounded Lestat and a more confident Louis. We also see a new dynamic, something that feels almost impossible between two characters with such a storied history. The technology is a reminder of how many years have passed. No more horses and carriages. Now, Lestat queues up for Beyonce tickets on an iPad and facetimes his decades-long old flame from a modern Montreal home.
Yet, despite the evidence of change, this scene feels comforting in its familiarity. Both the loving banter and the fiery arguing are parts of this relationship we’ve seen time and time again, across time and space. Even the sounds of people heard from Lestat’s balcony view over Montreal take viewers back to the city sounds and warm street lights of New Orleans as Louis began his tale in season one. Of course, this is the calm before the storm of Lestat’s rockstar lifestyle takes over. But if this teaser is anything to go by, fans won’t need to worry. “The Vampire Lestat” will marry the old and the new as we learn and grow with the characters. You can watch the full scene below. Sit back, relax, and let the tale seduce you.
