The MCU has done a great job in setting the foundation for things to come.  Different stories and characters plant the seeds and each one that follows only built it up more.  What they led up to were global movies.  This got fans excited for the Avenger movies.  The MCU was great at this, but fumbled the ball a bit after Avengers: Endgame.  But things ramped up again when it looked like Kang would be the next big bad.  Even had his own movie; Avengers: Kang Dynasty.  However, the course for that movie has shifted.  Now things lead to Doom.  However, Kang is established as well as the Kang Council and the Kangs throughout the established multiverse.  With a few but strong appearances, the MCU has an elephant sized Kang in the room.  If they were to address how Kang was meant to be the big threat but changed course, there must be an explanation as to why.  A theory as to why.

This theory involves the multiverse, anchor beings, Doctor Doom and his ego, and the speculation in the Marvel universe that Dr. Doom is Kang’s ancient ancestor.

So, it begins with Dr. Doom serving as an anchor being.  It’s already established in the MCU that anchor beings are crucial to the survival of the planet they are on.  With Dr. Doom being as powerful as he is, him being an anchor being has merit.  But perhaps he is more.  Dr. Doom could be the anchor being to a new piece of lore in the MCU; the Anchor Earth.  This Earth could be THE Earth that the multiverse cements its foundation.  On this Earth, Dr. Doom is sheriff, mayor, governor, war general, president, king and God.  Him existing simply guarantees the survival of Anchor Earth.  But, Dr. Doom, no matter the Earth, is driven my major ego.  The Dr. Doom fans will meet in Avengers: Doomsday sets out and ultimately kills Anchor Earth Dr. Doom because he is envious of the type of power and influence he has.  By killing, Anchor Earth Dr. Doom, Anchor Earth begins to fade as does the multiverse.

That is why multiple teams of superheroes across the multiverse are coming together.  The Avengers, the X-Men from their Earth, the Fantastic Four from theirs, and perhaps other rumored characters are crossing paths not on the sole purpose of defeating a common threat but for mere survival.  They are on the same Earth because others are fading.  Once in the same space, that’s when they realize Dr. Doom is behind it all and must join forces to defeat him.  But how does this relate to Kang?

It is speculation that Dr. Doom is an old forefather to Kang. The two have even discussed it briefly.  So, the connection between Dr. Doom and Kang will have some value because of what has been brought up in the books.  Plus, it’s already been established in the MCU that Kang is a huge presence in the MCU multiverse.  It could be explored deeper the reason that is so is because one of his forefathers has established himself as the deep root of it all.  Anchor Earth Dr. Doom could have devised plans to ensure that his rule could encompass more than just Anchor Earth.  He could have put plans in place that at the very least his bloodline would be the ruling fist across the Multiverse.  However, Doomsday Dr. Doom may want his way to be the only way.  In order to make it so, he needs to take out Anchor Earth Dr. Doom.  And by succeeding, Anchor Earth Dr. Doom and his entire bloodline, which includes the vast array of Kangs, is erased.

The MCU did set up a rule about this in some form.  Within the continuity, if a past version of a character were to die in some type of time travel, the current and future version of the character will still exist.  The only consequence of killing a character in the past is creating a new timeline.  However, it isn’t quite clear if someone were to kill an ancestor of the character.  That has yet to be explored and explained in the MCU.  So, it might be believable that someone in the MCU might be able to kill an ancestor or parent or grandparent of another character so they cease to exist.  If that is the case, and if Dr. Doom is an ancient ancestor to Kang, that will do away with Kang the Conqueror. And since Kang is a big presence in the multiverse his absence will be felt.

And that will force everyone to respond.  The shockwave will go through the worlds of the Avengers, X-Men, and the Fantastic 4.  It would even impact Loki, who is virtually in charge of tending to the multiverse.  But with such a force affecting it, like Doomsday Dr. Doom killing Anchor Earth Dr. Doom, he too will be forced to act.

All in all, if this theory – as ludicrous, outrageous, and complex as it sounds – does find a way to leap over all hurdles to be some what correct, it could eliminate and explain the Kang dilemma and set up the rest of Avengers: Doomsday.  It is a theory that is so specific that it would be astronomical if it comes close to being true.  But regardless, the MCU does have an issue with Kang that could be worth exploring.  That potential exploration might explain why and how all those Kangs seen at the end of Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania vanished.  And explain how, within universe, Dr. Doom became the big bad.  At the end of it all, it’s an issue the MCU has an opportunity to explain.  If its something that the MCU does not explain, fans might just feel cheated to why something as the arrival of Kang just faded into smoke.
