Reboots and remakes have become popular in recent years. Most people nowadays are tired of hearing about Disney remaking films that do not need live-action remakes. However, when it comes to anime, we have the opposite problem: they’re not paying attention to the shows the people want. Here’s a short list of shows that either need new seasons or a reboot.
Soul Eater
Soul Eater received its popular anime run in the early 2000’s. Students at Death Weapon Meister Academy train humans with the ability to turn into weapons and those who can wield those weapons to collect 99 human souls and one witch soul to become an almighty weapon for Death itself. This action packed anime with its dark comedy continues to capture audiences to this day. Unfortunately, this animated show only lasted two seasons. With the final season of its prequel, Fire Force, right around the corner, the voices asking for a Soul Eater reboot started getting louder.
Ouran High School Host Club
Ouran High School Host Club captured peoples hearts back in the mid 2000’s with it’s comedy and charming cast of characters. The series follows a scholarship student as she tries to become a lawyer. She meets a group of weird rich people who end up becoming some of her dearest friends and teach her valuable lessons along the way. The show received one season that became filler halfway through, and it left fans begging for a proper adaptation. It’s been almost 20 years at this point, and we’re still asking for a reboot.
Noragami
Noragami is a 2014 anime that had fans very emotional with its story and characters. Its depiction of a tight knit bond between a god, spirit, and human became the heart of the show. When the anime finished airing, it had caught up to the manga. However, a decade has passed since then. When the manga finished last year, fans started asking if the show would come back, or if a new studio would reboot the series.
Magi
Inspired by 10001 Arabian Nights., this magical action show became one of the best shonen shows the 2010s with its action and story. The show received a spin-off series that followed a beloved character, Sinbad on his own adventure. Despite all its accolades, the show never received a full adaptation. The manga ended in 2017, and to this day, fans still await a new season or a reboot.
Blue Period
Blue Period follows a budding art student as he goes through the various trials that test him on his journey to become a worthy artist. The first season aired in 2021, and it was a hit with audiences. It showcased the harsh art world, the doubt and self-loathing that comes with chasing artistic visions to a level many artists resonated with on a personal level. It also resonated with others who chase after their dreams and face similar struggles the cast of Blue Period experienced. Despite this, the studio has yet to announce a second season.
Gangsta
Imagine a world where Captain America’s kids were put into an internment camp because he took the super serum that passed down abilities to his descendants. That’s essentially the city of Ergastulum. Here we find two handymen, Nick and Worick, who spend their days doing dirty jobs for both the police and the mobs that roam in the city. This gritty series didn’t shy away from the depravity of its setting. It used it to highlight both the good and evil in humanity, which captured audiences. Unfortunately, the anime studio filed for bankruptcy in the middle of the show’s airing. As of now, there is no news of a studio picking up this show.
Deadman Wonderland
Deadman Wonderland took the anime world by storm when it came out in 2011. After being falsely accused of murder, Ganta is sentenced to death at Deadman Wonderland. This prison forces prisoners to set up the death matches it puts on to entertain its audience. The warden forces Ganta to fight in these death matches after finding out he can control his blood. When the show aired, audiences loved the story and its characters, but were irritated by its rushed season. The theory is that the studio knew the show wouldn’t get another season because it’s too violent. Despite this, fans still hold on hope for a reboot.
