With the holidays in full swing, homes everywhere fill up with the smells of sweet and savory dishes. Cooking brings family, friends, and even strangers together to bond over the taste of a delicious meal. But with the excess food also comes excess stress, especially if you have a big crowd to feed. What better way to kick back and relax than to watch others do all the work from the comfort of your own couch.
We’ve gathered the top food shows and competitions that we’ve been loving lately. There’s something for everyone from funny and wholesome amateur baking to high-level chef competitions. So next time the holiday stress starts setting in, turn on one of these shows. You might even learn some tips from the experts — or what not to do from the amateurs.
Blue Ribbon Baking Championship
Though the weather may be getting colder, there’s no reason not to reminisce on long summer days spent at the fair, shoveling cotton candy and funnel cake into your mouth. Those are the vibes that “Blue Ribbon Baking Championship” brings to the table. This show brings together contestants from all different states who share one commonality: They’ve all won blue ribbons, the first place prizes, at their respective fairs for their baking prowess. The participants are the real star of this competition. Much like The Great British Bake Off, they form a quirky group that makes the competition feel less cutthroat and more wholesome. And the baking challenges match their energy, taking inspiration from all kinds of classic fair foods to make never-before-seen bakes.

Secret Chef
If you love shows like “Love is Blind” or “The Circle,” but have always thought to yourself, this doesn’t have enough food for my liking, you’re in luck. “Secret Chef” combines the blind dating aspect of the former shows with the excitement of a cooking competition. The competition starts out with ten chefs, all of which are given aliases to cook under. They each have to taste and judge each others dishes blind, all while trying to hide their own identities. For these contestants, staying in the game not only means being the best chef, but being a master of deception.

Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking
Season two of “Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking” started just this November and is continuing all the fun from the first season. The hosts of this show might be familiar to you. They are everyone’s favorite twins, on and off screen and page: James and Oliver Phelps. Though not reprising their roles as Fred and George Weasley, they are bringing back all that childhood nostalgia, with a little sugar and spice sprinkled on top. Each episode pays homage to places, people, and creatures from the beloved books and movies.

24 in 24: Last Chef Standing
If you thought normal cooking competitions were stressful, you’ve never seen this one. As the name suggests, the magic number is twenty-four. Twenty-four contestants, twenty-four challenges, twenty-four hours. That’s right. These chefs only have twenty-four hours to prove they’re the best among the crowd. The grand prize is $50,000 and the challenges are difficult and fast-paced, simulating what the real-world restaurant business is like, times one hundred. Who will endure the grueling conditions to make it out on top?

Baking Impossible
Teamwork is the dreamwork in this Netflix competition that pushes the boundaries of what baking can be. Instead of relying solely on food artists, each baker is paired up with an engineer. Together, each team combines their unique skills to take on challenges that are as much architectural feats as they are baked goods. You’ll be hard-pressed to find creations quite like these anywhere else. The teams come up with all sorts of magic, from edible robots and cars that move to bridges that can stand up to the stress.

No Taste Like Home With Antoni Porowski
If you couldn’t get enough of Antoni Porowski in the hit show “Queer Eye,” he has his own show for you to indulge in. On “Queer Eye,” he changed lives by introducing the show’s heroes to cooking methods that fit easily into their lifestyles while also nourishing their bodies and souls. Porowski carries over that same down-to-earth approach but, this time, he applies it to a star-studded cast of guests. Each episode dives deep into a different celebrity’s roots and food culture, traveling to the homes of their families and ancestors. Notable guests include Issa Rae and Florence Pugh.

Tucci in Italy
Stanley Tucci takes viewers on another rich exploration of culture, environment, and gastronomy throughout the different regions of Italy. From the bustling hearts of Italy’s biggest cities to the calm day-to-day of the sprawling countrysides, each episode is a crash-course in food but also the country’s history and spirit. After the success of the first iteration, “Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy,” Tucci takes the stories even deeper, but the wealth of knowledge and appreciation for each bite brought to his table hasn’t changed.

The Great British Bake Off
No matter how much time goes by, we can’t make a list of our favorite food shows without mentioning “The Great British Bake Off.” It’s become a beloved classic for good reason. Some shows are exciting for their cut-throat conditions and expert-level contestants. Others make us laugh because we can see ourselves in the fails of each amateur baker on our screens. GBBO strikes the perfect balance of the two. The contestants have more than enough talent to go around, despite not being professionals, so you get innovative and impressive bakes. But there’s also a strong sense of camaraderie among each year’s group and plenty of laughs from the contestants, hosts, and judges alike. While the newest season may have just ended, two new holiday episodes just hit Netflix to ring in the season. And there’s always the juniors and professionals spin-offs to sink your teeth into.

Beat Bobby Flay
Contestants battling each other is one thing. But taking on a famous seasoned chef? That’s a whole new ball game, one that contestants on “Beat Bobby Flay” are ready to face head on. Each episode features a pair of chefs competing with each other first to build a dish using a special ingredient hand-picked by Flay himself. Whoever wins out in the first challenge gets the honor — or terror — of challenging Bobby Flay next. Of course, Flay does need a couple disadvantages to level the playing field, which comes in the form of a secret dish that contestants can prepare but Flay has to interpret on the spot.

Is It Cake?
You’ve probably seen plenty of videos on social media, only to find that the seemingly mundane objects in them are actually made up of cake — or worse, wax. This trend has seen very talented bakers showing off just how many things they can disguise a delicious sponge as. Whether those videos have you intrigued or looking around your home in horror, Netflix has even more in store. On “Is It Cake?” bakers hand-craft all sorts of random objects out of cake, aiming to fool a panel of judges by blending their bakes in with the real deal. Each episode also features a new panel of personalities, with familiar faces like Liza Koshy and Lana Condor making appearances.
