Weapons
What caused the disappearance of 17 students at Maybrook Elementary School all at once in a single day? Teacher Justine Gandy was shocked when she found that the dozen were absent from her class this morning.
Although the school operated as usual and students in other classes carried on their activities, only one student was present in her class, Alex Lilly.
The strange incident started with unusual behaviour at dawn, and the children woke up at 2:17 a.m. outside their homes and vanished into the darkness.
In the morning, the parents of students began to panic as their children had gone and asked for answers from the school. What made it even more alarming was that all 17 of them were classmates.
The school agreed to help the parents in the search for their missing children and temporarily suspended school activities until there was a breakthrough in the investigation. This weapon film presents a layer of psychological horror where empathy turns into a threat and some weaving narratives from the perspectives of the teacher, parents, and police, ultimately manipulating the audience’s psychology.
Conjuring: The Last Rites
The film Conjuring: The Last Rites tells the story of the journey of paranormal couple Ed and Lorraine Warren as they face the case of the Smurl family. Despite being devout churchgoers, the Smurl family experienced a terrifying haunting, which eventually led to tragedy when their daughter was struck by a falling ceiling lamp.
That terror came in both physical and nonphysical forms. Ranging from strange smells and screams, physical attacks, and shards of glass, targeting every family member.
Ed and Lorraine decided to help the Smurl family through exorcisms twice, but both attempts failed. The paranormal couple then had to confront the most terrifying demon of their entire career.
The psychological horror in Conjuring: The Last Rites radiates through buried flashbacks, as well as lingering emotional trauma, with dark shadows and ghostly screams fueling a constant psychological tension throughout the story.
The Monkey
This film is adapted from Stephen King’s 1980 book, telling the story of a monkey doll with a horror side inside the storyline.
It begins with twin brothers, Hal and Bill, who discover a monkey doll in their father’s attic. Surprised, this would turn their day into a terrifying days.
This monkey doll holds a pair of drums in its hands, and whenever the drumbeat sounds. It foreshadows that something terrifying will happen around them, and someone is destined to die a gruesome death.
The first incident struck their babysitter, Annie, who died horrifically after being decapitated, after the monkey doll banged its drum in a restaurant, and other incidents continued to unfold around them, lasting even 25 years later.
As adults, Hal and Bill destroyed the monkey doll, and they were relieved to see it gone. But their relief was only temporary; the monkey doll reappeared on Bill’s face. What will happen next? Will Bill destroy the monkey doll once again, or will he use it as a tool for evil?
Every time the monkey bangs its drum, it sparks anxiety, heightening the psychological tension for the audience, as death can strike at any moment and is nearly impossible to escape.

I had to confer with my wife on Sinners. Sure enough, 2025.
I kind of thought Sinners was like a cross of From Dusk Till Dawn but with that 1930’s gangster shoot em’ up of Last Man Standing.
It had a long draw in period like Dusk Till Dawn. Also, the vampire reveal comes as the protagonists are hiding out in a out of the way bar ( or 1930’s Speakeasy).
We just saw The Conjuring Last Rites.
Although a few of the themes from previous iterations of the franchise were repeated (Loraine finds herself trapped alone in the basement again), overall I thought this a successful conclusion to Patrick Wilson’s and Vera Farmiga’s involvement.
Hopefully, the young actors that portrayed Ed and Loraine will be used again to make a full movie out of their very first case.
This franchise also has expanded into Anabelle films and 2 installments of The Nun (featuring the youngest Farmiga sibling.
Another move we just saw last night that actually is classified as suspense (so technically not horror), is Lurker.
I included it here because it does a great job of delving into the deviant personality.
Somehow I find this more terrifying than your typical slasher film.
The premise of Lurker is centered around the serendipitous meeting of an everyday clothing retail employee and a rising pop star from the U.K.
The ‘common’ man impresses the pop star with a song selection that just so happens to be the sound he is looking for as he records his next album.
Instantly they become close.
The common American is swept up in this enviable lifestyle.
He is given a ‘job’ (unpaid).
However, not is all roses.
The musician is of the personality that requires all his ‘subjects ‘ to constantly impress him.
The American realizes that as he has ousted the popstar’s last documentarian, so soon does he find himself cast out.
The story is about the lengths one will go to to achieve their own desires.
It questions the morality of an industry that appeals to the masses, showing the dirty side of what it is to be successful.
