Just two years ago at San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) 2023, the hit animated comedy TV series, Futurama, announced another two seasons after a 10-year hiatus. The first new season came out on Hulu sooner after SDCC 2023 – this was season 11 of the series. Since then, season 12 came out and fans thought that it would be the end. Now, at SDCC 2025, season 13 has been announced and previewed with the additional news that this renewal will include a season 14 as well! Season 13 (10 episodes) of Futurama is set to be released on September 15, 2025, on Hulu and confirms that season 14 will be coming out at some point. Here’s what was announced, previewed, and audience reactions at the SDCC 2025 Futurama Panel in Ballroom 20 of the convention.

The panel began with Lee Supercinski, the stage director of Ballroom 20, on the far side of the stage with a massive empty table next to him. He promptly announced the names of the voice actor/actresses of many fan-favorite characters; directors and editors from the creation of season 13; as well as the series creator, Matt Groening. Lots of cheering came from the crowd for each of the members of the panel. Notably, the voice actor of every ones favorite robot, John DiMaggio, was not on the panel, but he did have a stand-in from Maurice LaMarche. The panel gave some preliminary information about season 13, including a couple episode plots and relevant issues that would be satirically covered. One episode that the panel was excited to talk about was one in which the NBA star, Victor Wembanyama, voices an episode-specific character in season 13.

After sharing some of the plans for season 13, the audience was treated to a script reading by the voice actors on the panel. It was only about a minute long, but because it was a script reading with stage notes, the listeners got a real peek into the behind-the-scenes of what it is like to voice act. The episode that was read was not announced and will only be revealed upon the release of season 13.

To wrap up the panel, a Q&A was opened and the audience was encouraged to ask questions. Out of all the guest questions, the unofficial guest appearance from comedian/actor Orlando Jones was a highlight from the Q&A. While he asked a Futurama related question, his question was overshadowed by his banter with the fellow voice actors, a couple of whom he had worked with on past projects. The Ballroom was full of fans for the Futurama announcement, so the Q&A took up majority of the time allotted to the Futurama panel. Unfortunately, not much else was revealed about season 13 of Futurama other than what the panel had already shared before the questions.

Later in the day, the same panel was available on a different stage for fan pictures and signings. However, since this event was reserved for SDCC 2025 attendees only, this will be the only mention of it in this post.

All in all, this Futurama announcement was not as grandiose and hyped as the 2023 announcements, but the audience was filled just the same. Since that revival of Futurama, the show has risen to hover between the sixth and eighth most watched series on Hulu. Given that success and the fact that it has gone through a total of four seasons and two renewals since then, it is a safe bet that Futurama will be receiving new seasons annually.

For anyone that is unfamiliar with Futurama, it’s an animated comedy that is set in the year 3000. It rose to popularity in 2007 and was a main stay on Comedy Central until 2013 when the 10-season series “concluded.” It was then revived by Hulu as a part of the “Animayhem” promotion, and Hulu is currently the only place to find all things Futurama.
