We appear to be having our one annual week of sunny weather here in the UK, so it’s understandable if you’re not all caught up on Neighbours because you’ve been too busy sunning yourself outside. As a certified indoor person, I am fully caught up, so let me round-up this week’s Neighbours episodes for you.

Whiplash Wendy

Wendy has had all of three days as a substitute teacher and she’s already about to throw in the towel on her career in education. Just as she’s contemplating a move back to hospitality, Jane asks her if she’s free to pick up a lesson at Erinsborough High, and says there’s a possibility of there being a permanent role available.

Wendy takes this one class and finds that the kids aren’t awful, rabid gremlins, and so she changes her mind about teaching and decides it is her calling after all. She’s so easily swayed that it’s giving me whiplash. Andrew can’t keep up either but is doing his level best to support her and her very changeable moods.

The position at Erinsborough High turns out not to be available, but Wendy then gets a job offer in Murrayville, where she did her placement, and she’s hellbent on taking it. Apparently being a teacher in the middle of nowhere is her dream job. It’s six hours away, so Andrew isn’t keen on the idea because it either means them being split up indefinitely or that the whole family will have to pick up and move with her. Wendy isn’t backing down, and neither is Andrew, so it seems unlikely that they’re going to be able to reach a decision that everyone is happy with.

Enter Sandra. She’s one of the students in Andrew’s self-defense class, and she clearly has the hots for him. Andrew is oblivious, so it takes Max to point out to him that Sandra is absolutely gagging for it. In an attempt to clear the air with her, Andrew just makes them both feel uncomfortable.

My prediction is that the Wendy storyline and the Sandra storyline are going to become one and the same. I think Andrew is going to start an affair with Sandra, and that will drive Wendy to leave him and go and take her dream job. At least this is how I hope it pans out, because as much as I’ll be disappointed with Andrew if he cheats on his wife, I won’t be sorry to see Wendy go, she just tries too flipping hard.

Congratulations, Cara

Cara and Remi are stil at odds over Remi messing with her police academy application. Cara is convinced that Remi did it to sabotage her chances to get in, which Remi denies, although I think Cara is at least partially right.

Cara gets accepted, despite Remi’s meddling, and Remi realizes that she’s just scared of losing her wife, especially after her recent health scare. She decides to try to be as supportive as possible, trying to help Cara with her diet and exercise regime, as well as getting the boys to make her a huge congratulations banner. I don’t think this will be the last tension over Cara’s career choice though, Remi is seriously not keen, but then Cara doesn’t seem massively keen on all the diet and exercise she’s having to do either. What was she expecting?

Taye Gets a Side Hustle

Taye is struggling for money, especially now that he owes rent at the share house. When one of Byron’s clients from the days when he used to escort comes into the piano bar looking for him, Taye sees a way to make money. Byron is very definite that those days are over for him, and here is a clearly very wealthy, and very horny, woman looking to throw money at a young man, in exchange for him giving her a good time. It seems to be a win-win for both of them.

Taye’s all bravado, but when it comes to it, he’s a bit nervous. It seems that he soon settles into the role though, and makes himself quite the pile of sweet, sweet cash.

Maybe he did a bit too well though, because his client comes to the piano bar and spends the day trying to make him feel as awkward as possible. Taye obviously doesn’t want anyone at Lassiters knowing that he’s picking up escort clients from work, so he gets into a bit of a flap. Is this lady just having a bit of fun with him, or is she a bit of a stalker? She does seem very keen, and I can’t imagine Taye is going to be able to keep his second job a secret for long if he doesn’t set up some clear boundaries between his bar work and his escort work.

Big Family Drama

The big story of the week revolves around Eirini Rising’s newest resident, who also happens to be Jane’s mum. Once Susan finds out who she is, she absolutely cannot leave it alone and keeps on trying to persuade Amanda to get in touch with Jane, instead of using her move to Erinsborough as some sort of test to see how much Jane cares about her.

Despite it being a massive conflict of interests, Susan simply can’t stop herself from getting all up in Jane and Amanda’s business, trying to drop hints to Jane that she needs to ring her mum. Eventually, Jane comes to Eirini and sees Amanda in the office, so the secret is out.

Meanwhile, Amanda has taken quite the shine to Darcy, and he’s been flirting with her relentlessly. She’s even started introducing him to people as her boyfriend and bringing him as her plus one to things. Karl is very concerned about Darcy crossing the line with one of the residents, but Susan seems absolutely oblivious to there being any issue with a known grifter cozying up to a vulnerable old lady in their care.

Because she is clearly vulnerable – there are signs that she might have some sort of dementia, and Darcy has definitely noticed. His ears also pricked up at the mention of an inheritance too. Yikes.

I say, “Yikes”, because it’s quite obvious to me what Darcy is up to. He’s being very chummy with Amanda, and he goes out of his way to stir up tension within the family, turning Jane and Amanda’s strained relationship into a full-on feud. Darcy is seeing dollar signs, and all he’s got to do is play his cards right, and probably manipulate a vulnerable old lady into changing her will. I just knew Darcy would be doing some crimes now he’s back and I’m actually pretty pleased to see it, because he has been incredibly dull and simpering up until now.

A Few Random Notes

As usual, here are a few random notes I took while watching Neighbours this week:

  • If Dex is lecturing you on making rash decisions, Cara, you’re in trouble.
  • Cara went to her interview looking like a Bee Gee. The flared shirt collar is a bad look.
  • I’m not going to lie, I’d join most of Moira’s clubs at Eirini.
  • I love Nicolette calling her nan a wackadoo old lady and then ordering Jane a wine 😂
  • Aaron giving Cara his old stripper pants is very unsavory.
  • Has Susan got a medical condition that just stops her from seeing villains and grifters doing bad things right in front of her? Why is she defending Darcy?
