Universal Destinations & Experiences is leveling up in a massive way, not just in the theme park industry but across social media, global tourism, and international entertainment. The launch of Universal Epic Universe in Orlando, Florida, scheduled for May 2025, is already going viral, thanks to a flurry of influencer content that fans can’t get enough of. Meanwhile, speculation swirls about a new park in Los Angeles, and Universal has officially confirmed a groundbreaking new project in the United Kingdom.
Here’s everything we know—and everything fans are freaking out about.
Epic Universe in Orlando: Opening May 22, 2025 – Already a Viral Sensation
Universal’s most ambitious park to date, Epic Universe, is opening its gates in Orlando on May 22, 2025, but the buzz has already exploded online. Over the past few days, TikTok and Instagram have been flooded with sneak peeks, influencer walkthroughs, and fan reactions, showing off jaw-dropping features like petting Toothless in the Isle of Berk, the dark thrills of the new Monsters ride in Dark Universe, and the immersive Ministry of Magic experience.
This viral storm came after Universal initially tried to restrict influencer content, banning photos and videos during early access previews. But that didn’t last long—once a few leaked clips surfaced, fan reactions were so overwhelmingly positive that Universal quickly reversed course, embracing the hype and even inviting more influencers to share the magic. Now, the #EpicUniverse hashtag is trending across multiple platforms, with millions of views and likes pouring in daily.
At the heart of the park is Celestial Park, a beautifully designed central hub with gardens, interactive fountains, and the thrilling Stardust Racers dual-launch coaster. From there, guests can explore five distinct themed lands:
- SUPER NINTENDO WORLD – Featuring Mario Kart races, question block hunts, and interactive experiences straight from your favorite games.
- The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic – Dive into magical bureaucratic chaos and travel between London and the wizarding world.
- How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk – Family-friendly attractions, Viking villages, and meet-and-greets with your favorite dragons.
- Dark Universe – A gothic horror land reimagining Universal’s classic monsters in terrifyingly modern ways.
- Celestial Park – The open, vibrant launchpad to the other lands, filled with restaurants, shows, and a unique hotel.
Speaking of which, the Universal Helios Grand Hotel, built right inside the park, will offer guests exclusive access and views, making it the ultimate staycation for theme park superfans.
Tickets went on sale in late 2024, with multi-day and annual pass options quickly gaining traction. Universal is bracing for record-breaking attendance this summer, with the social media virality adding even more fuel to the fire.
Rumors of Epic Universe Expansion in Los Angeles
With the success of SUPER NINTENDO WORLD at Universal Studios Hollywood, fans are naturally wondering if a West Coast version of Epic Universe is next. While Universal hasn’t officially confirmed any plans, rumors continue to swirl about a major expansion in Los Angeles.
The challenge? Space. Universal Studios Hollywood is landlocked compared to its Orlando counterpart. But with the brand’s momentum and the popularity of themed lands like Nintendo and classic monsters, many industry insiders believe it’s only a matter of time before Universal figures out how to bring some form of Epic Universe westward—whether through expansion, a new location, or more immersive single-land rollouts.
A New Universal Theme Park is Coming to the UK – Opening by 2031
Universal is going international in a big way. In early 2025, the company confirmed its first-ever UK theme park, to be built in Bedfordshire, England, with an expected opening date by 2031. This massive project will span nearly 500 acres, making it one of the largest developments of its kind in Europe.
The new park is expected to attract 8.5 million visitors annually and generate up to £50 billion for the UK economy by 2055. It will also create over 20,000 construction jobs and 8,000 permanent roles, according to government estimates.
Highlights of the UK park include:
- Franchises rooted in British pop culture, such as James Bond, Paddington, and The Lord of the Rings.
- Classic Universal IP zones for Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, and Minions.
- A live-action James Bond stunt show rumored to rival Vegas-style spectacles.
- A fresh approach to storytelling and design that will cater to both local and international guests.
One notable omission? Harry Potter, which won’t be featured in the new UK park due to existing licensing deals with the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London in Leavesden.
The Bedfordshire location offers strategic proximity to Luton Airport, the Oxford-Cambridge Arc, and future transport links like the Wixams train station, all of which will make it easy for visitors across the UK and Europe to visit.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer praised the project as “a massive vote of confidence in Britain’s economy,” and fans across Europe are already counting down the days until opening.
Universal’s Global Expansion Is Just Getting Started
Between the viral buzz of Epic Universe in Orlando, strong demand in Los Angeles, and the monumental UK announcement, it’s clear Universal is just getting started with its next chapter.
These new and upcoming parks are more than just attractions—they’re experiences, built for the TikTok generation, fueled by fandoms, and designed to go viral. As fans continue to share their awe and excitement online, the Universal brand is reaching new heights, cementing itself as a leader in immersive, cinematic entertainment.
Get ready. The universe is about to get a lot more epic.
What do you think makes Epic Universe stand out from other theme parks operating today? Is it the technology, the storytelling, or the connection between cinematic worlds?
It’s the connection to the cinematic worlds for sure. There is just something about walking into a land you’ve only dreamed of being in and being completely immersed. The trending videos of people meeting Toothless on TikTok is a great example. Disneyland does this to some extent but has recently pulled back in a lot of its character and show experiences to focus on rides.
