From beyond the grave, Stan Lee will have his justice.
Seven years ago, the world lost a legend in the form of Stanley Martin Lieber, AKA Stan Lee. The legendary storyteller and the face of Marvel passed away at age 95, and the entire world mourned his passing. At the same time, people also celebrated his life and everything he did, helping to create characters from the Fantastic Four to Spider-Man. As it turns out, though, Lee’s final years weren’t as fulfilling as people thought.
Even before his passing, there were already rumors going around that the people around Stan were taking advantage of him. He was being carted from convention to convention, his finances were being exploited, and people were treating him as this cash cow rather than giving him the respect that anyone at his age should get. And now, seven years after his death, his assistant, Jon Bolerjack, is coming forward to say that the rumors were downplaying things. It was even worse than most people knew! People were abusing this legend for their own greed!

At the time, Bolerjack lacked the power to put a stop to what Stan went through. However, he had the foresight to record hundreds of hours of footage of how Stan Lee got mistreated, and now he’s ready to share it to the world. Earlier this week, a trailer dropped announcing a new documentary about how Stan was mistreated in his final years. A documentary that would make sure that, even if the ones responsible don’t face legal charges, will still be judged for their actions. The catch is that this will be entirely crowdfunded on Kickstarter, with a goal of around $300k.
And in case you don’t believe how accurate the allegations are, guess what? THE GAME OF NERDS HAS PROOF!!!!
WE GOT THE CAR FAX!!
In 2018, members of the TGON went to Stan Lee’s final con appearance at SVCC, and were supposed to get an interview with the legendary comic book writer. Not only did they not get that interview, they witnessed firsthand just how tired out and out of it the man truly was. He was a man in the final chapter of his life, and he was being asked to do things that even someone a third of his age would find exhausting!! He looks less like the legend we knew and worshiped and more like a great-grandpa who needs to rest.
His handlers had forbidden people from taking photo’s or videos of the event in a deliberate attempt to hide just how bad things were for him now. However, one of our intrepid staff members managed to sneak the above footage
This honest to God sickens me. I came close to meeting him twice, and both times I failed. The first time was due to lack of money, and the second was due to a cruel twist of fate. But the fact that this is what the man whose characters helped comfort me during my teen years was reduced to has lit a fire in me. And this is just one example of how people take advantage of the elderly for personal gain! As much as I wanted the chance to meet Stan Lee in person, I wanted to see him do it on his terms as the man that was beloved by millions. I would even go so far as to suggest that it was the exploitation of the people around him that helped lead to his eventual death. AND. I. CAN’T. LET. THAT. GO!
I know that Marvel has had it rough for the last few years, but regardless of what we think, Stan Lee did not deserve to experience this kind of treatment. If it were up to me, the man should have gotten to spend his final years being treated with the respect and reverence that he and his surviving contemporaries deserved. And I am well aware that people are saying that Bolerjack is just as bad as those he’s claiming to expose for hiding this behind a paywall (with plenty of incentives), but we should at least give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he really didn’t have any power to help Stan back then, but at least he’s coming forward with the footage now when he never had to do so. You don’t have to donate, and you’re free to think what you want about Jon, but consider this: maybe he’s just trying to do right by Stan after all this time.
