Synopsis:

Denzell must perform a dangerous operation with the skills he’s learned from Claire; William asks for help from an unexpected source in his mission to save Jane.

As Season 7 came to a close, we witnessed reunions, losses, and a major cliffhanger. This left us with questions that we hope will be resolved in the final season.

Jane & William:

I was taken aback by the important roles Jane and Fanny played in the Outlander story. Unfortunately, Jane passed away as she faced a death sentence, but her belongings left a significant clue that were given to Fanny. William didn’t get the happy ending he hoped for by rescuing the girl, yet he spent some time alone with his father. Since John is strict and follows rules, William understood that Jamie would go to great lengths to assist him. William also talked to Jamie about his mother and their bond. Jamie spoke kindly about Geneva, but despite that, William still won’t call Jamie his father. If they continue to build their relationship next season, hopefully William will eventually accept Jamie for who he is.

Ian & Rachel:

In the finale, we didn’t see much of these two, but important things happened. Rachel shared that she is pregnant. This news is a wonderful surprise for the couple. It is especially meaningful since Ian had faced challenges with his previous wife. They discuss the idea of moving to the Ridge to be with Jamie and Claire. Even though Denzell won’t be close by, moving there makes sense for Ian. He has land, and it would provide a safer place to raise their child. However, in the midst of the joy, there was also sadness. Ian discovers that Rollo has died, which is hard because losing a pet is always heartbreaking.

MacKenzie’s:

Time travel seemed to go well for Brianna and the kids. They found Roger and Buck, and they all reunited. Staying with Brian was a touching experience, especially as Brianna connected with her grandfather. It was nice when she pointed out the similarities between her name and Brian’s, and it made sense for Brian to notice Brianna and Ellen looked alike. Unfortunately, he won’t realize he was speaking to his granddaughter. Brianna and Roger discussed their next steps. They hinted they might join Jamie and Claire for a big family reunion at the Ridge. I’m curious about Buck and Rob Cameron. Will Buck choose to stay at the Ridge, or will he go back to his own time? The story with Rob Cameron feels unresolved. I’m also surprised that Roger and Brianna left their home in the 80’s without tying up all their loose ends or fully planning their move to live with Jamie and Claire.

Jamie & Claire:

Claire came through her surgery and spent her recovery time at the church. There was a nice reference to a previous time when Claire had a fever on the Porpoise and wanted to be close to Jamie. She shares a story about a male elephant trying to mate with a female that is dying, which makes Jamie worry she might be feverish again. Claire has some visitors, including John, who checks on her. Jamie is still upset with John and struggles to move past what happened between them. It’s unclear how many times John can seek Jamie’s forgiveness, but at least they connect over William. Then things get deeper. Claire dreams of Master Raymond, which brings back memories of Faith. Raymond asks for her forgiveness, raising a red flag for Claire. As we learn about Jane and Fanny, we discover their mother shared similar interests with Claire. When Fanny gets Jane’s belongings, she finds a locket. The locket has a portrait of their mother, revealing her name is Faith. To add to this moment, Fanny sings the song Claire sang to Faith in the hospital. This leads Claire to believe that Faith is still alive.

This storyline is already stirring up debate since it’s not part of the book. Personally, I don’t agree with this theory. It has too many gaps. For instance, Claire was told that Faith was stillborn, yet she held the baby later. If the baby wasn’t moving, are we supposed to think Claire was given another baby? This contradicts the idea because Claire sang to Faith when she held her. That was the same song Fanny sang. If Faith was alive, she must have heard that song, even though as a newborn, she wouldn’t remember it. Then, when Jamie and Claire visited Faith’s grave, can we believe someone else was buried there? Or maybe no one was buried at all? That would ruin the emotional impact of that scene and diminish the pain Jamie and Claire felt. Why make them suffer so much? Finally, why would Master Raymond take the child for his own reasons? Will he reappear? If this part of the story is separate from the book, will it be fully explored in the last season? Will Jamie and Claire search for answers about Faith’s whereabouts? They will have Fanny living with them on the Ridge. She could provide more information about her mother, possibly giving them clues.
