After a long wait, we finally got a glimpse of a few trailers for the upcoming season of The Last of Us, which will return in 2025. Watching these trailers gave me chills once again, just like the first season’s trailer did. I haven’t played the game, but I’ve read about and seen clips of what’s in store for the new season.
The trailers reveal that the story continues with Joel and Ellie living in Wyoming alongside Tommy. A significant character, played by Catherine O’Hara, appears to be providing therapy to Joel. In both trailers, she poses intriguing questions such as, “Did you hurt her?” and “What did you do?” We witness Joel in tears and get a glimpse of Ellie, bandaged and screaming in fear, suggesting that flashbacks may show her experience during pre-surgery from Season 1. As the story unfolds, we observe development in both characters. They have established a life together in a house, and Ellie has a tattoo on her infected arm. Joel has not neglected to teach Ellie guitar, a detail hinted at in the previous season. There are signs of tension, including a scene with Ellie’s bloody knife in a sink and more clickers attacking people in Wyoming. The trailers also introduce new characters, such as Ellie playing guitar for Dina, portrayed by Isabela Merced. Jesse, played by Young Mazino, while Jeffrey Wright returns as Isaac Dixon. Additionally, a key character named Abby, played by Kaitlyn Dever, appears to be facing significant challenges in this harsh world.
Although the trailers reveal little of the story, that is a relief for me since I prefer not to be spoiled. As someone who hasn’t played the games, I look forward to being surprised by the show. HBO has done well with their teasers, creating just the right amount of curiosity and excitement. From what I’ve seen among fans, many are already making comparisons between scenes from the game and those from the show. I appreciate that Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann are dedicated to making the show true to the game.
