Virtual reality can give us a life we can’t even imagine in reality. “Sandboxes” are closer to reality than other games. Let’s talk about open-world sandbox games on PC.

Minecraft

It’s probably the most famous sandbox game whose number of users is even greater than the number of players at the National Casino online. You can play solo, in co-op with other players, or on a server with thousands of players. Minecraft was released in 2009 by Mojang Studios and has remained popular until now.

To survive, the player will need to collect resource cubes. To find rare resources, such as diamonds, you’ll need to dig deep into the ground. But monsters lurk there.

First, turn on the sound. The authors paid a lot of attention to the game sounds, and it’s good to hear the creeper before he explodes behind your back.

You won’t be bored in the game. There are several modes:

  • Adventure. Get to know the game world and maps of other players. You will be able to watch the process of the game, including the construction of buildings and creation of tools.
  • Creativity. The mode allows you to fly. Furthermore, you will get unlimited resources. Everything you need to unleash your creativity. Build and destroy buildings; you won’t be limited by anything.
  • Survival. Mine resources, fight hostile creatures, and survive at all costs. Keep an eye on your health and hunger levels so you don’t die in battle or at home.
  • Hardcore. The hardest level of survival. If your character dies in the game, you will have to start all over again without resources and tools.

Minecraft is good because you can play alone or on servers with real people. You can create a local server and call your friends (or join them) or connect complete strangers to the game. You don’t have to build beautiful houses: the servers often host tournaments or duels.

Terraria

It’s almost like Minecraft, only in 2D. The game can be attributed to sandboxes in the classical sense. The player starts virtually from scratch; in the inventory, there are only primitive wooden tools. As you pass, they improve; you can mine more durable and hard ore.

At first, everything is simple. But the more you open locations on the maps, the more difficult it gets. There is even a line, after which you cannot return, hardmode mode. Playing becomes more interesting. There is a lot of new content and opportunities. But at the same time, the complexity of the game increases significantly. New mobs and bosses are generated that are stronger and more survivable than the previous ones.

But new biomes (game ecosystems with original mobs, resources, and vegetation) appear. What’s more, you can mine inaccessible resources and create more powerful weapons.

Starbound

It’s a game that many players were really looking forward to but were disappointed after the release. However, to be fair, it should be noted that the developers pushed on and patched the holes in the project.

Starbound is Terraria in space. According to the plot, the player leaves his planet to explore space. He will have to meet different alien races and visit a variety of biomes and underground caves.

In this case, each alien race is original. There are steampunk robot-knights, intelligent monkeys, and many other characters.

The game can be played alone or online with friends or strangers.
