I hear cruises are a ton of fun to be on. With wonderful accommodations, superb food, and non-stop fun, it sounds like a week-long party. For the price though, I would want to get the most bang for my buck, meaning, I want to have a trip as customized to me as possible. If I can work my nerdy or fantasy sides into something like that, hell yeah I am going to put them together. I know I am not the only one with that thinking. With that thinking, I thought I would check if there are any cruises that would fit that bill. I found some cool ones, more than I put in here, there are a ton of themed or specialized cruises.
I want to go on a cruise so bad. Unfortunately, I have an irrational fear of sharks that prevents me from going on one. It’s terrible and causes my honey to roll his eyes whenever it comes up. It’s comical really but I digress. Let’s look at these incredible cruises I found.
First is GACOCON. For those of you who, like me, don’t/didn’t know, GACOCON stands for Gaming, Animation and Comic Ultra Convention Cruise. This is the original nerd cruise and I can see why it is still going strong. There is console gaming, tabletop games, cosplay, and crafts. You can play games competitively or casually. You can win money for yourself or charity. There are D&D tables and GMs to run the campaign. You can play mini-golf, laser tag or sing karaoke. Plus? There’s alcohol. This sounds like a lot of fun.
Next are the Disney holiday cruises. Halloween on the High Seas is coming to us in mid-September- October 2024 and the Very Merrytime cruise comes in November/December 2024. The holiday cruises are on the ships Disney Magic, Disney Dream, and Disney Fantasy. You can dress up in character, eat incredible themed food, drink drinks filled with Disney magic, join in on crafts, and enjoy the décor set up for the holiday. The Halloween one will be in the Eastern and Western Caribbean and the Bahamas. Merrytime will be in the Bahamas and Western Caribbean as well. Just a personal opinion, hot chocolate, apple cider, and other fall/winter treats just don’t mix well with warm, humid climates. I feel confident in saying this because I have lived on both coasts, the northern and southern parts of both, and in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. There truly is a difference in the feeling of “Ah, this is what I want.”. The cool temperatures make them more satisfying.
Then on to the Star Trek cruise. It will be back from Feb. 23rd to March 2nd, 2025 on the Royal Caribbean cruise line. You will visit ports in Miami, Costa Maya, Cozumel, and Belize City. This one coming up will celebrate thirty years of Star Trek Voyager, which is my favorite one. Crew members in attendance on the ship will include Kate Mulgrew (Cptn. Janeway), Jonathan Frakes (Riker from Star Trek: The Next Generation), Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine), and Ethan Phillips (Neelix). This one my husband would love, he’s a Trekkie.
Next is the JoCo cruise. This is another gamer’s dream. There are games of all types, both electronic and analog. There is crafting (an important thing for me), comedy shows, concerts, and more. It’s not a convention on a ship like GACOUCON, but it has its own charms and is similar in a number of ways. I do think I would prefer this to the GACOUCON cruise.
Finally, we have the Cruise and Crop crafting cruise. Their next cruise is on July 22nd, this year. There is general crafting, jewelry making, scrapbooking, quilting and embroidery, and more depending on the cruise you pick. You can take classes, take what you make, win prizes, and receive goodie bags. I know this isn’t particularly “nerdy” but it has so many nerdy applications. I would love to make a necklace fit for a beautiful vampiric life-saving lapis lazuli stone to shine on (The Vampire Diaries) or scrapbooking techniques for the change I want to do to my bookshelves in a nerdy way. Or maybe I could learn to crochet and make myself a Scooby sweater.
I think of the choices of cruises in this article, the crafty one is the best one. Though, I don’t think my husband would enjoy it, so the right one for us is either the GACOUCON one or the JoCo one, though I am leaning toward the JoCo. There is no way I would go on a cruise without mi corazon. Not only because he is my other half and best friend, but also because I would need him to help keep me calm because of my irrational fear of sharks. I don’t think he’d miss it either because of the laughs, because of me, and the fun on the cruise itself.
What about you? Are any of these cruises enticing to you? Which one? Or are you like me and forever left on the shore? Let me know in the comments below. Until next time, have fun storming the castle!
