Hi everyone, it’s been a minute but I am back with something much different than my usual fare. With school ending for the summer, kids will be home and bored. Today’s book, Gravity Falls Dipper & Mabel’s Guide To Mystery And Nonstop Fun, is perfect for kids ranging from 7 to about 12. or those who love Gravity Falls no matter their age, I’m looking at you Jordan. The book is officially authored by Dipper and Mabel but technically authored by Rob Renzetti, Shane Houghton, and Stephanie Ramirez with assistance from Eric Geron.
The book is set up journal style with decoration all over. It is colorful and full of pictures without being only pictures. It has entries such as Proper Clothing for Paranormal Investigations and Tricksters, Cheats, and Worse. There are quizzes like How Dumb Are Dipper’s Quizzes. Mabel has provided crafting How-Tos, one of them that will teach you how to write your own language. Dipper has his own Ho Tos also.
You can tell the difference of whose perspective it is writing from color if it doesn’t specifically say Mabel or Dipper. Dipper’s writing is in black, whereas Mabel uses color to write, mostly pink purple, and teal. Some pages are a mix of the two of them writing. Dipper does a lot of informative entries telling you how to clean up, how to spot them, weird places on Earth, and more. Mabel’s entries are a bit more “fun” in nature, talking about sleepovers, knitting, and fashion.
I think this is perfect for younger kids because, while it is a thicker book, the reading is broken down into smaller pieces, it has POV changes, and there are activities. There are photos of recognizable characters from the show and there is variety. Between what Mabel writes is different from the content Dipper writes, and neither of them repeats the content. With my kids, it made books more digestible and out of my hair for a couple of hours. Not this one specifically but other similar books such as The Wimpy Kid Do-It-Yourself Book and the Monster High one, the Drop Dead Diary. One of my kids had both and had a bunch of fun with them, which is why I know Gravity Falls Dipper & Mabel’s Guide To Mystery And Nonstop Fun has the potential to keep your kids out of your hair for a bit.
It’s a cute book with a lot of fun stuff in it. It has to do with the supernatural, so of course, I am partial to it. My kid, Jordan, loves it too and they are beyond the target audience ages. They just got the book. Even I, who is most definitely outside of the intended audience, can find a lot of charm, cuteness, and fun in the book.
Have you heard of the cartoon Gravity Falls? Do you think your kids might like the guide? Let me know in the comments below. I really think it’s cute. I would recommend it to any kid that likes Gravity Falls or the paranormal. Obviously, it is for the show but the information in the book is great all around. Let me know if you check it out. Until next time, have fun storming the castle!
