Paramount Pictures and SEGA of America continue to expand the “Cinematic World of Sonic the Hedgehog” with their latest live-action event series, “Knuckles.” This new series promises to deliver an exhilarating blend of action, comedy, and heartwarming moments as it follows Knuckles (Idris Elba) on his journey of self-discovery. The narrative of the series finds its place between the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Knuckles, the red Echidna warrior known for his strength and serious demeanor, embarks on a new adventure where he agrees to mentor Wade Whipple (Adam Pally). He takes on the task of teaching him the ways of the Echidna warrior, introducing a fresh dynamic into the Sonic universe. This mentor-protégé relationship promises to deliver an exciting blend of action and character development.
In addition to Idris Elba’s starring role as the titular character, Adam Pally steps back into the shoes of Wade Whipple, a character he portrayed in the film franchise. The ensemble cast is a convergence of talent, including Edi Patterson as Wanda Whipple, Julian Barratt as Agent Barrett, Scott Mescudi as Agent Mason, and Ellie Taylor as Agent Wiloughby.
Adding to the star-studded cast are guest appearances by acclaimed actors Rory McCann, Stockard Channing, Cary Elwes, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, and Rob Huebel, each bringing their unique flair to the series. The creative team behind the previous Sonic films have returned to work on “KNUCKLES,” ensuring the series retains the cinematic charm and animation style that fans have come to love. Jeff Fowler, the director/executive producer of the previous films, is at the helm of the project, having directed the pilot episode and overseen the transition of the film’s signature cinematic animation style to television.
Joining Fowler are executive producers Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, John Whittington, and Toru Nakahara, along with Idris Elba. The series’ direction is further supplemented by the talents of Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone, and Carol Banker.
John Whittington and Toby Ascher, who created the series for television, have been instrumental in shaping its direction. Ascher is serving as the showrunner during production, while Whittington, who wrote Sonic the Hedgehog 2, is the head writer and the author of the pilot episode for the series. They are joined by Brian Schacter and James Madejski, who are also contributing as series writers.
