Star Wars: The Bad Batch S3 Ep 13 Review
To quote Dr. Strange, “We’re in the endgame.” The Bad Batch is determined to rescue Omega and their fellow Clones from Mount Tantiss, but first they have to find it. And, regrettably, Ex-Admiral Rampart doesn’t know, either. The only way they’re going to get what they want is by finding the next ship headed to Tantiss and getting the coordinates from it. As for Omega, though, she may not be as helpless as the Empire thinks. She’s already planning to escape again.
Sneaking in Right Under the Empire’s Nose
After their hopes of using Rampart to get to Tantiss come up empty-handed, the Bad Batch and their unwilling prisoner are back to square one. The good news, though, is that Echo comes through by getting them a stolen shuttle. Better yet, Rampart does tell them how ships get to Tantiss. They get the coordinates from an orbital station. The bad news: it’s above Coruscant. And they have to use Rampart to help them get aboard.
If there’s going to be a heel-face turn for Rampart in the cards, then it won’t be anytime soon. As soon as he’s given a stolen uniform and back on the station, he’s back to his arrogant self. There are going to be Imperials who will turn on the Empire one day, but it seems like Rampart won’t be one of them. The first chance he gets, he’ll sell out the Bad Batch if it means somehow getting his career back, even though that will likely never happen.
Sadly, the Bad Batch can’t get the coordinates from the station itself or the departing ship. Their only option is to disable the sensors and then hitch a ride undetected. In other words, unless something big happens next week or they manage to transmit the coordinates once they’re at Tantiss, we can’t expect Rex’s group to swoop in as backup. The Bad Batch is on their own.
But they’ve got a secret weapon: Omega.
Omega Could Escape on Her Own
Hemlock and the Imperials have made a big mistake regarding Omega’s captivity. Because her first escape had help from the likes of Crosshair, Batcher, and Nala Se, they believe her incapable of doing so on her own. However, as this season has established, Omega is anything but incapable.
Omega uses everything she’s learned over the course of the series to quickly begin planning a second escape right under the Imperial’s noses. From covertly stealing one of Dr. Karr’s tools to hiding her access to the shaft they use to transport her blood sample, Omega demonstrates a high level of competency. Of course, it does help that the majority of the Empire arrogantly believes itself to be invincible, and tends to underestimate anyone who will stand against it. They think Omega helpless on her own, but not only is that not the case, but she’s not even alone. She has the other kids.
After acquainting herself with the Force-Sensitive captives, Omega manages to become to them what Hunter is to the Bad Batch: a leader. Whereas the other children have given up hope of going home, Omega knows they can beat the Empire together. On her own, Omega is already a capable soldier and leader. Now imagine what she could do with a group of Force-Sensitive children backing her up?
If the Bad Batch can’t get Omega out of Tantiss, then she’s going to get herself, the kids, and the other Clones out.
Calm Before the Storm
This was a very slow episode, which is surprising consider how The Bad Batch is only two episodes away from its finale. However, it also feels like this is the calm before the actual storm. Once they arrive at Tantiss proper, the Bad Batch will be in for the fight of their lives. And some fans worry that not all of them might be making it out of this.
I’m personally hoping that not only will all of the Bad Batch make it out alive, but if CX-2 is Tech, they can save him. I’m hoping to see more of the squad in future installments of Star Wars, as the story of the Clones needs to be continued. After spending half of my life getting to know them on a personal level, I want to see at least some of the Clones get a happy ending. Until then, the Bad Batch charges once more into the breach.
