I have tried to make it a habit to share news about indie games for most of my tenure at TGON. There is something special about indie games you do not get with AAA titles. We, as consumers, get to watch the games and developers we love grow over time. I remember playing Graveyard Keeper as an alpha; now look where it is. It is a beautiful transformation we get to see, which I genuinely enjoy. So, with that in mind, let’s talk about Born of Bread.

Born of Bread’s Story
Born of Bread is a 2.5D adventure game centered around a flour golem. Our protagonist is Loaf, a sentient loaf of bread created by Papa Baker. It’s very Pinnochio so far, but the story gets even better. Humanoids from another time are causing chaos throughout the lands, searching for Sunstone Shards. This is a story as old as time itself; literally, the conflict has been baking for thousands of years. Loaf will learn about themselves, make friends, and save the land in this coming-of-age story. After all, every story kneads a hero.

Thoughts on Born of Bread
When I first saw Born of Bread, it took me back to when I saw The Adventures of Bread Man a few years back. I am apparently a sucker for cute characters made of bread. The graphics are the first thing that caught my eye. 2.5D can be challenging to pull off. However, WildArts Studio Inc. killed it. The world is vibrant and childlike without sacrificing an engaging world. This looks like a game I would love to hop into and spend the rest of my days in.
Secondly, I am interested in this original turn-based combat system. Based on the Steam page, combat requires a bit of a mini-game. Players must hit a sequence of buttons or press a button at a specific time to land a hit. This is a fun way to break up the slog a turn-based game can be. Finally, the storyline is genuinely entertaining. I get to play a bread person named Loaf. Sign me up! Ultimately, I look forward to playing Born of Bread in the future.
