My current nerdy hobbies are gaming, D&D, and crafting. When I say crafting, I mean full fledge cosplay props, to the point where I am taking a blacksmithing class to hone my craft better. However, I felt I could not reach peak nerdom until I tried and enjoyed an MMORPG. I am not talking about 2001 RuneScape; I wanted something to learn the lore in and out. I am already interested in D&D lore, so I thought, what better way to get the MMORPG experience than play Neverwinter? Therefore, I hopped on, made my handsome bard, and got to work.

The Story of Neverwinter
In this free-to-play MMORPG, players find themselves in their own Dungeons & Dragons fantasy setting. The Lich Queen Valindra declared war on the people of Neverwinter. Heroes from all over The Forgotten Realms must band together to push back her army of darkness. Players will explore a variety of engaging locations, battle nefarious baddies, and uncover secrets throughout the land. The adventure awaits you whether you are playing alone or with your pals.

Thoughts
Gearbox owns my soul at this point. I cannot go a day without quoting Mister Torgue High-Five Flexington. So, when I saw they were the publisher of Neverwinter, I was even more pumped. I, of course, had my spouse join me so we could rise the ranks together, and let me tell you, we were not disappointed. He played as a rogue, and I should have followed suit and tried an “easier” class. Attempting to play the lute in combat was the hardest thing I have ever done in a video game. However, when my song would work during battle, I felt powerful. I got beat down significantly, but the flourish and pretty musical notes made my day. It was also fun running into other bards and listening to the songs they came up with; they were much better at their craft, without a doubt.
The leveling system also seemed pretty quick. Over the course of a weekend, we reached level eight, and I know we barely scratched the surface. After we finish Baulder’s Gate, I know we will return to this title. Overall, we had fun with our first MMORPG experience, and I would recommend this game to players new to the format.
Odds & Ends
It is available on its website and Steam if you want to play Neverwinter. Looking for more D&D content? Then I would recommend checking out my article on Baulder’s Gate. Overall, this title was fun, and I look forward to our next session.
