You are invited to the biggest pizza party of the year! But what if you found out that it would be in a pizzeria with a dark and horrendous past that still haunts its walls? Can you survive Five Nights at Freddy’s? To be honest, I’m not sure if I can survive 139 days till the premiere. The anxiety is driving me insane! After nearly ten years since it was first announced that there would be a movie for Five Nights at Freddy’s, we are finally getting it!
As a fellow horror fan, October cannot get here any sooner. There’s so much to be excited about this year. Then to top it off, towards the end of the year, there will also be a novel based on the movie. The book is expected to be released on December 5th of 2023. Now I know what I’ll be asking Santa for Christmas this year, or better yet, Freddy Frostbear.
The movie will star the amazing Matthew Lillard as the man behind the slaughter, William Afton. The OG Short King, Josh Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt, the main protagonist with Schmidt, along with Piper Rubio as Abby Schmidt, Mike’s little sister. The film will also be introducing Vanessa Monroe, played by Elizabeth Lail, Lucas Grant as Garrett, Kat Conner Sterling as Max, and Mary Stuart Masterson as the female villain.
A couple of weeks ago, Jason Blum, founder of Blumhouse Productions, dropped the first teaser trailer for the FNAF film. For only being 47 seconds long, It was one of the most-viewed trailers on the day it was released. According to Jonny Blox via Twitter stating that within 24 hours of the trailer being released across their social media, it gained about 80 million views!
The trailer opens up with a hostess welcoming you to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, and then it spans over to the happy children having a blast with all of the cool games in the arcade and playing in the ball pit. The clip itself seems a bit retro, giving an ambiance of the ’80s. Could this have been taken around the Bite of ’83? After the hostess hits the showtime button, we get our first glimpse of the notorious animatronics Freddy, Bonnie, and Chica. In the background, we can faintly hear the lyrics from The Romantics’ song “Talking In Your Sleep,” singing the words, “I can hear the secrets that you keep while you’re talking in your sleep.” Not to mention this song was also released in 1983, coincidence? I think not! Then we are shown a shot of the diner in modern times where it lays in abandoned shambles. We see Josh Hutcherson enter the dark pizzeria wearing a security hoodie, and as he takes a peek behind the stage curtains, we see Bonnie up close. Careful Mike! You don’t want to end up like Jeremy in ’87, but then again, that is why you are there.
The joyful music from the beginning has now turned eerie, and as Mike powers up the building, we see the security room, and the details are on point with the games. You can see the same layout of the cameras down to the same angles, including the fan, the striped cup, the posters, and even the crumbled-up ball of aluminum foil! Small little details that only fans of the game series can spot and appreciate. Thankfully Scott Cawthon, the creator of the video game series, has helped out by contributing to the filming of the movie, so you can rest assured that he has left many easter eggs for his fans to find, so keep your eyes peeled! In the remaining part of the trailer, we see the horrors that haunt the pizzeria, a shadow and stomp from Foxy the Pirate, the ghosts of the missing children, William Afton and Vanessa, and in the end, Abby hides away in the ball pit hoping to get away from the evil animatronics.
So mark your calendars for this year on October 27th, Five Nights at Freddy’s will premiere in theaters and stream on Peacock. For those who would like to share the experience with fellow fans, you’ll be able to watch it on the big screen. For those of you who want to watch it in the comfort of your home, order some pizza and take your time to pull apart every detail bit by bit on Peacock that same day. For those who are new to the franchise, no worries if you don’t catch every easter egg, “Perhaps some things are best left forgotten, for now.”
