What is The Spirit of the Samurai?
You play as Takeshi, a samurai whose home has been overtaken by a great evil. You must rise to face the powerful Oni that plans to strip away your home and burn it to the ground. While it may feel that the world is against you, you are not alone. A kitsune will guide you through what feels like hordes of beasts. Additionally, your companion Chisai, a warrior cat, will loyally remain at your side at all times. Together, you must race against the clock and beat the evil before it is too late.
However, there is an obstacle in your path. A great and powerful Oni kills you in combat. However, your loyal cat gives your soul enough time to escape and not be captured. Together, you must travel through the barren world in search of your body. There is no telling what else may be waiting for you in your adventures and what else you might find out about in your dark and unknown past.
What Else Do We Know About The Spirit of the Samurai?
The game is described as an “epic, brutal and dark action/adventure” game with “Soulslike and Metroidvania” elements. Players that enjoy a dark world with challenging elements will enjoy this game for its brutal combat and unforgiving gameplay.
As you may be able to see from the images, the game has a 2D stop-motion animation style. Those that are a fan of movies such as Kubo and The Two Strings or Coraline may enjoy this element. It makes the game unique, as well as providing the monsters that you may face with an uncanny and intimidating edge that may not be found in other games. This has been described by the developers as “with spectacular, meticulously made art and design combined with stunning animations taking care of every detail, we offer you the possibility of immersing yourself in a great Samurai adventure unlike any you have seen or imagined.”
Digital Mind Games have also mentioned about the setting being feudal Japan, as well as the extensive world and environments that players can explore. It is also rich in mythology, with you facing formidable foes taken from old folklore. Those with an interest or curiosity about feudal Japan will take joy in fighting armies of tengu, jorogumo, and the undead.
When is the Release Date?
Currently, the game has no official release date. It is only set as “coming soon” and is still in mostly early development. However, it has been announced to be released for both PC and Console. The game can be wishlisted on Steam, and there may be further announcements during the Future Games Show.
