When it comes to party supplies in the cryptid theme, they exist for sure, but they have always been centered around Big Foot, a.k.a the Sasquatch. But what about Mothman? Or the Kraken? Aliens? Or even Nessie?
Here the focus shall mainly be on Mothman. Beloved Mothman has been something many sing the praises of, with a surprisingly large amount of songs in his name. Mothman has even become a prominent figure in the SCP community, Fallout 76, and various home brews for DND. Mothman is everywhere, whether he be a hero, villain, or sexy interloper.
I am here to provide some variety to your cryptozoology party, as I have found on Amazon, and through the sheer willpower of creativity, it is possible to make the best cryptid party ever. I divided each part of my house into sections to ensure I covered all the bases regarding cryptids, from the forest aesthetics, cult-like following of these creatures, the SCP areas, and the undersea lore. I also scoured the reaches of Amazon and peeled the brain of a fellow Dungeon Master to enhance the party further. So let’s get into it, shall we?
Party Supplies (Amazon List):

This item was my party’s main event, as it inspired me to create the “Mothman Cult Room.” When you’re at somewhat of a loss in making sure your walls aren’t completely barren, a tapestry is a quick fix. The eyes and red decor stood out when I cast some LED lights upon it, which is also an absolute must for any party. If you happen to have any other lights or a Mothman plushie, it’ll fit right on the floor of the tapestry. Make it creepy!
There aren’t many options you can find online when it comes to any cryptid cake toppers or figures. I did find, however, that there is, in fact, a set of toys themed around cryptids which I strategically set around the house in their own little dioramas. My favorite out of the bunch was the Yeti and Bigfoot, which I had at opposing ends of a little forest road I had made from cardboard. Sadly this set doesn’t include MothMan, but there is a MothMan figurine you can also purchase on Amazon, which is far larger.
On Amazon, I found a good amount of tin posters that fit the cryptid criteria. This one, especially, is a fun little info board that looks like it could belong in a research facility. There are other tin signs that say, beware, keep out, or trail crossing that can be added to the tin sign collection. Finally, there is another one that specifically calls to the danger of Mothman, which is my personal favorite. I placed the Mothman sign in particular near the aforementioned cult room.
Of course, one of my main questions when putting this party together was what sort of napkins and cups I should give out to my guests that would appropriately fit the theme. I paired these with some simple brown plastic silverware. They are also ubiquitous in their simple design, and I still quite frequently use these plates even long after the party. A tablecloth with the same pattern can also be found to match the wood theme.
Something to give to the guests. You can’t have a themed party without some sort of goodie. Some of the stickers in this pack seemed oddly out of place, such as a frog with a knife, but they were wonderful overall—sexy MothMan stickers for the win. There are also some cute group photos between groups of cryptids.
These are indeed the exact same set of ivy garlands that you see in every Tik Toker’s room, but they perfectly fit the wild forest theme that is trying to be captured here. I draped mine near my stairwell and attached them to some fairy lights for a campground feel.

Activities
- Mothman DND Oneshot
Many sources on the internet provide some tips for creating a Mothman DND encounter, such as a tutorial by Runesmith on YouTube. There are also some homebrews you can find or you can create yourself. The best thing as always, about DND is you can get as creative as you want. I highly advise your players to be placed in a spooky campground setting for investigations.
- Costume contest
A great thing about cryptids is that there is a large variety of them. This is an excellent opportunity to show off some cosplay skills and arrive at your best interpretation or recreation of a cryptid of your choice. Also, when you look at the definition of a cryptid which is anything that is believed to exist without evidence, it opens up a multitude of options for what can be considered a cryptid in the first place. Whoever wins gets pretty points.
- Making Anacapa charts
Almost every sort of cryptid-like creature can be found on an aesthetic red string board. These boards are known as ancaps which I quickly discovered by a quick internet search since I thought “red string board” didn’t quite cut it. I had taken the cardboard from the leftover Amazon boxes. I used the blank edges to thumbtack various cryptid images I had found on the internet, using some of the stickers I had gotten from the pack on Amazon.
Conclusion
The options are unlimited when it comes to the fanbase of Cryptids. What else would you want to do than reenact the lifestyle of an elusive creature and indulge in its wild mythos for the decor? That is for you to decide on how to do it. The wonderful world and lore of cryptids can be found all over the internet and in several games. Enjoy!
