In addition to having great plans with Amazon Prime Video for the tiny screen, Sony Pictures has been working diligently to develop its Spider-Man universe on the big screen.
With ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’, they’re also extending the Academy Award-winning Sony Pictures Animation series. There have been numerous reports that Tom Holland, the real-life Spider-Man, may appear in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
When asked if Holland might feature in ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ in a recent interview, producer Amy Pascal only responded, “Not going to comment on anything around that!” But she does say, “Tom Holland does adore these [Spider-Verse] movies,” as she points out.
‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ will be released in theaters on June 2nd. Spider-Man, as a superhero character, is one of the top Marvel characters to ever exist, both in the movies and in the comics. Iron Man, Captain America, Black Panther, and Wolverine, followed shortly after.
Spider-Man’s recent movie starring Tom Holland and Zendaya called ‘No Way Home’ landed the second-biggest debut in history with $260 million during opening weekend alone. It also became the first pandemic-era movie to cross $1 billion at the global box office. Fans especially went crazy for the surprise appearance of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire in the movie, both of whom played the character before Holland took over.
Holland’s Spider-Man also excited fans with his appearance in other Marvel movies like ‘Captain America: Civil War’, ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers: End Game’. Spider-Man’s popularity has also risen above movies and comics with popular video games like ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ released in 2020 and slot games by PlayTech, a giant software developer which produces most Marvel games and other popular slot games available at fast withdrawal casino sites like LeoVegas and Casumo.
Tom Holland claims that producer, Amy Pascal asked him on the set of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ but no one has gotten back to him yet about his role. “I want to be there. Indeed, I adore those films”, says Holland.
It hasn’t been officially announced whether Tom Holland will put in the Spider-Man suit once more in a live-action film, but it does seem hopeful for Holland’s Super-Man future. The actor appears to be on the fence about returning, but he isn’t ruling out a stint with Marvel. In a previous interview, Holland discussed passing the baton to a successor, saying, “If I’m still playing Spider-Man at 30 I’ve done something wrong.” This shocked most of his adoring fans but Holland corrected his remarks in a subsequent interview, claiming that his comment had “been slightly misinterpreted.”
In a recent interview, Sony CEO Tom Rothman disclosed his desire for Holland, Zendaya, and filmmaker Jon Watts to all return for a fourth film. Further reports about Holland taking the lead in another trilogy started to circulate in November. This month, Kevin Feige declared that Holland’s upcoming Spider-Man film “has a story” in mind.
Big things are promised for the sequel of our beloved Spider-People by Sony Pictures Animation. The plot summary for Across the Spider-Verse is as follows: “After reconnecting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s resident Spider-Man is launched across the Multiverse, where he comes upon a group of Spider-People tasked with safeguarding the Multiverse’s very existence. But, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders as the heroes disagree on how to face a new threat. In order to save the ones he loves most, he will soon need to redefine what it means to be a hero.”
Will Tom Holland return to the big screen as our favorite Spidey-man? We will just have to wait till June and find out for ourselves! Or simply wait for more rumors to surface!
