Coolest Stuff to Look Forward to in 2023
It’s out with the old and in with the new. A new year means new opportunities to grow as people. For nerds and geeks, though, a new year means we’re closer to the release of that new content we’ve been dying to see. With 2023 in full swing, it feels appropriate to look at some of the coolest stuff the new year can offer. It doesn’t matter if its a movie, show, or video game. If it’s coming in 2023, then it’s on here.
All the Star Wars Stuff Coming Our Way
Where to even start? Star Wars is going into 2023 firing on all cylinders, as seen by the abundance of new content the franchise has lined up for us. On January 4th, the second season of The Clone Wars spin-off series, The Bad Batch, premieres on Disney+. A few months later, The Mandalorian returns with the third season everyone’s been begging for. Then, in the spring, the sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order, Jedi: Survivor, will be released on consoles and PC. That’s a lot of new content in the first half of the year alone.
In addition to everything with a confirmed release date, there’s even more in the pipeline. Star Wars Visions, the hit animated anthology series, will be returning with stories from studios across the world. Last but not least, Ashoka Tano will be getting some love with her own show of the same name. In other words, now’s a good time to be a Star Wars fan.
Phase 5 of the MCU Begins
With Phase 4 now behind us, Marvel’s moving forward with the start of Phase 5 of the MCU, AKA the second part of the ongoing Multiverse Saga. While Phase 4 may have seemed a little bit all over the place in terms of content, it was actively laying the groundwork for something that will hopefully surpass the Infinity Stone Saga. Not wasting any time, the first installment of Phase 5, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will properly introduce us to Kang, the presumed big bad of the Saga.
It doesn’t stop with movies, either. Marvel’s slated to roll out up to five shows on Disney+ in 2023, including the second seasons of Loki and What if…?. While some might see the excess of Marvel content coming out as a bad thing, as long as it makes money, then Disney will keep encouraging it.
Spider-Man Will Win Big in 2023
While Spider-Man is a part of Marvel, it won’t be under their banner alone that will see the web-head climb high in 2023. First is the anticipation building up for Across the Spider-Verse. Sequel to what many argue is the best Spider-Man film ever, Across the Spider-Verse will take fans on a multiverse-spanning adventure with more incarnations of the famous hero than we can count, including the Peter Parker from Insomniac’s Spider-Man.
Speaking of Insomniac, 2023 will also be the year that Insomniac Games releases Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, the hype surrounding it is off-the-charts. Given how it may give players the chance to play both spider-heroes and give us Venom, it’s easy to understand why.
The Super Mario Bros Movie Might Actually Be Good
For years, the idea of making film adaptations to popular video games seemed like an impossible dream; studios couldn’t capture what made people love the games in cinematic form. Then Sonic the Hedgehog gave us a ray of hope, and now Nintendo and Illumination seek to capitalize on that. Thus, Spring 2023 will give us The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Despite how much we want to be skeptical about the movie’s success, we can’t deny the facts: the trailers for this movie look good. Really, really good. While fans may take issue with Chris Pratt voicing the iconic plumber, the rest of the film looks pretty solid. If it succeeds, it could finally break the curse of bad video game movies. If it fails…we won’t think about that.
Happy 100th Birthday, Disney
In October 1923, brothers Walt and Roy Disney founded the Disney Bros. Studios in California. Flash forward to a hundred years later, the Walt Disney Company is one of the most powerful companies in the world with a hand and finger in almost every aspect of the entertainment industry. From dozens of beloved films and shows to iconic characters and numerous theme parks, Disney is everywhere these days. And it’s going to let people know about its birthday.
Throughout 2023, Disney will likely be marking its 100th birthday with all sorts of big events and celebrations. While the company has taken some hits in recent years due to concerns about it’s growing influence, people continue to love the characters it creates. While it’s iconic mouse won’t celebrate his 100th for another five years, 2023 will mark a major year for Disney as a whole.
