Now, if you know me well enough, you know that I love Kevin Hart as a funny man. I adore the man’s stand-up, but his movie career has been quite lackluster, in my opinion. Fatherhood may be the first movie that isn’t flop and possibly could win him an award. As a mom to a nineteen-month-old daughter myself, I was in tears by the end of this trailer, along with my husband. This may, in fact, be Kevin Harts’s best acting performance yet. It’s the perfect match of light-hearted humor and life-filled drama. It’s a reminder that parenting is tough, and it takes a village.
Kevin plays a dad who loses his wife the day after their daughter is born. It’s a true-life story of father and daughter and how they navigate their lives together through the ups and downs. While family consistently tells him that “he needs help” and he “can’t do it” in true parenting fashion, his character says, “You’re right I can’t. But you know what I am going to do it because I am her father.” Any parent knows that feeling of being up against the wall and mustering up the strength to plow through it for your kid.
