Emerald City Comic Con is right around the corner…are you ready? The slew of panels and meetups can get confusing and hard to keep track of, so it might be a good idea to start planning out your convention experience now! And, of course, I’m leading by example!

As a nerd who sits at a desk all day during my day job and explores cosplay, podcasts and workouts in my spare time, I was STOKED to find the panels below. But don’t think my selection is the cream of the crop, because ECCC has panels for everyone! Maybe you will be just as excited for these ones as I am! Here are my top five:

Wellness for Geeks Who Sit – Thursday March 12 12:30-1:30 p.m. (TCC L2-R2)

This panel is perfect for gamers, writers, cosplayers, artists and anyone else who regularly sits for long periods of time. You’d be amazed how spending a couple hours bent over cosplay work can destroy your body! Designed with all body types in mind, these seated exercises can be modified and are meant to have you leaving with new skills. Plus, the panelists are offering nutritional tips as well!

Adult Lightsaber Choreography Class With Saber Guild: Kamino Temple – Thursday March 12 3:00-4:00 p.m. (TCC L2-R2)

Have you ever thought about learning how to actually wield a lightsaber? Saber Guild is an excellent resource for not only learning how to handle a lightsaber but also how to build your own choreography routine! In the past, Saber Guild has provided some loaner sabers for the class, so if you don’t have one of your own don’t worry! You can still learn from the pros!

Making an Audio Drama Podcast: From Idea to Upload – Friday March 13 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (WSCC 3B)

Fascinated by audio drama podcasts like I am? The crew behind Dark Dice, VAST Horizon and The White Vault delve into the creative process that goes into creating and maintaining a podcast, and they’re happy to answer all of your questions!

10 Points to Slytherin: Why Good Fans Love Evil Characters – Friday March 13 1:45-2:45 p.m. (TCC L3-R4)

We all have at least one villain we just can’t get enough of. Have you ever wondered why that infatuation is so strong? Jazzlyn Stone, Vita Ayala, Dearbhla Kelly, Eliot Rahal, Caitlin Starling and Jen Vaughn explore the fascination fans have with dark characters during this hour. Perhaps all your worries about your psyche can be alleviated! (I know that’s what I’m hoping for…fingers crossed!)

Fantastic Foam Fabrication – Sunday March 15 4:00-5:00 p.m. (Cosplay Stage – WSCC 307)

As a cosplayer who has been digging into every resource I can find about foam armor for this year’s costume, I can safely say that this is the panel I’m most excited for. Seeing all the materials, tools and supplies needed for foam armor will be fascinating. Plus, you get to see examples of the finished products! Cosplayers of all skill sets may benefit from this panel, so I highly suggest you check it out!

Keep in mind that these panels are available to you on multiple days. You’re not limited to the time slots I’ve provided!

Honorable Mention:

Cosplay Crunch Contest – Sunday March 15 3:00-4:00 p.m. (The Hive Workshop- TCC L2-R4)

This meetup needs no explanation, but I have no doubt it will be a hoot to watch. Personally, I may try to show off my skills while rocking my “Seis Manos” cosplay, and I highly encourage you to challenge me! Even if you don’t want to participate, come cheer on your favorite cosplayer as they attempt to prove themselves as the cosplay crunch master!

For Families:

The Seattle Children’s Museum: Superheroes Gear Up and Story Time! Thursday March 12 12:00-1:00 p.m. (Family HQ Interactive-WSCC 211)

ECCC is fantastic about making sure that fans of all ages are included in the convention experience, which is evident with its Family HQ. This year The Seattle Children’s Museum is providing kids with a place to create their own costume accessories and listen to stories read by its Super Staff. And the best part? This experience is available to children all four days of the convention!
