As we all know, this season of Gotham will be the last. This means that the creators have to find ways to close off the series in a proper way and leave no to little open ends. So how are they planning to do so? I’ve been scanning the internet for clues to what we can expect. And boy are we in for a treat!

To start off, we will see three-time jumps this season. The season premiere opened 391 days after the events of season four before settling back at 87 days. Later, the series finale will jump ten years into the future, where Batman is an established figure in Gotham. This means that Bruce will officially become Batman this season or something that will look like it. Because Alfred and Lucius Fox are still around, it is likely that Alfred will train Bruce while Lucius provides him with gadgets. My guess would be that the final episode or at least the majority of that episode will be a full-on Batman episode located in the future.

As for Jeremiah, he himself will most likely not appear in the future, but before that he will undergo some kind of evolution in his character to become another amalgam of Jeremiah and Jerome. However, this new character won’t be a biological triplet of the twins. Cameron Monaghan even called Jeremiah’s final scene in the series “vicious, nightmare-fuel horror.” and that “the one in the final episode that we haven’t seen yet” is his favourite character that he has played. This also probably means that Jeremiah is not the Joker, but more a precursor to the Joker, who is somewhere in Gotham “anonymous and unformed, and he’s watching the actions of Jeremiah and Jerome and possibly even another one, adopting them as inspirations as the person he’ll one day become.”

Some other things that have been floating around are that Penguin will start wearing his traditional top hat and monocle, just like in the comics, the Riddler will wear his traditional question mark suit and the Mad Hatter will have a teacup holster and a top hat with little playing cards as an allusion to his iconic comic look. However, it is yet unknown if they will have these outfit changes in the current time or if they will appear in the future. Also, Jim Gordon will debut his iconic moustache from the comic books, and I think this is definitely going to happen in the jump to the future.

So what do you say about all the upcoming things? I get very excited just knowing what is going to happen but then it also makes me sad. Because whatever it is that we get to see in the future, it will be the last time that we see our beloved Gotham characters on the screen.
