If you thought Sherlock Gnomes was the strangest adaptation they’ve come up with, just wait until you hear about this one: Holmes & Watson stars Will Farrell as the great consulting detective, and John C. Reilly as his trusted sidekick and friend John Watson. This new film (premiering November 9, 2018) is written and directed by Etan Cohen, known for Men in Black 3 and Madagascar 3. So when I say I have no idea how this is going to go, I mean that absolutely wholeheartedly.

And the leads are just the beginning of a hilariously intricate Holmesian network of actors involved on this project. The ever-expanding world of Sherlock Holmes adaptations is a intricate (albeit extremely confusing one), but luckily here at The Game of Nerds, we take this stuff very seriously and will happily sort it all out for you.

Joining Farrell & Reilly is Hugh Laurie as the older Holmes brother, Mycroft. Laurie was the star of his own Sherlock Holmes adaptation, House, a medical procedural with a unique twist. Playing Mrs. Hudson is Kelly Macdonald, who while never appearing in a Holmes adaptation, did star alongside Sherlock himself Benedict Cumberbatch in the BBC film The Child In Time.

And playing the mastermind villain Moriarty is Ralph Fiennes, who is well used to playing the bad guy as he spent years as Voldemort in the Harry Potter series.

Ya, this film is going to be a spectacular ride of a film. It’s still too early to tell whether it will have us screaming for more or begging to get off.
