Hey guys! Welcome to another TGON Reads! Skulduggery Pleasant is by far one of my favorite books, and I want to waste no time in this introduction telling you all about it. So without further ado, let’s dive right in!

Stephanie Edgley had, what she believed to be, an entirely and utterly boring life. Her family was normal, though many of them were selfish and greedy, and in all her twelve years of life, nothing remotely exciting had ever happened to her. That is, until her beloved Uncle – an esteemed and wealthy author by his own right – died under considerably mysterious circumstances. Unwilling to leave the comfort of his home, Stephanie ends up stranded at her Uncle’s mansion during a serious thunder storm. After having a bizarre and dangerous stranger break into the house, Stephanie is saved by a detective named Skulduggery Pleasant. The issue? He’s an ACTUAL skeleton, cursed to roam the world as nothing but bone. This would deter any normal human being, but not our middle-school aged Protagonist. No, Stephanie dives into the world of magic and danger head first, and eventually Skulduggery takes her under his wing. Despite the near 400 year age difference, the two form a sort of father-daughter bond that lends a hand in defeating their enemies.  Stephanie continues to help him under the name Valkyrie Cain, and even begins learning some magic of her own.

Skulduggery Pleasant is a book I read in high school – it quickly became my FAVORITE among the many I’ve read. Derek Landy, the author, rose in the ranks and has easily become one of my top five favorite authors. (He’s right up there with J.K. Rowling and Darren Shan for me.) So you can imagine my happiness and surprise when I learned that Skulduggery Pleasant is a SERIES. Other books in the series include:

– Playing With Fire

– The Faceless Ones

– Dark Days

– Mortal Coil

– Death Bringer

– Kingdom Of The Wicked

– Last Stand of Dead Men

– The Dying Of The Light

Despite my pickiness when it comes to the books I keep on my shelf, Skulduggery Pleasant has wormed it’s way into my heart. The series is definitely one I’d like to own physical copies of. (Family and Friends: HINT HINT Christmas is on the horizon – I prefer hardback covers…just sayin’.) All-in-All, the Skulduggery Pleasant series gets a 5 out of 5 glasses rating, and Derek Landy gets a personal gold star from one of his biggest fans! (Another Hint: It’s me. I’m the fan.) Thanks for reading, and tune in next time for another TGON Reads!
