The Story
The 1993 film recalls the childhood of Scotty Smalls and the group of friends he meets in the summer of 1962. Smalls is new to the neighborhood and in desperate need of friends. He sees a group of boys playing baseball one day at the neighborhood sandlot and is reluctantly invited to join them. Smalls is new to the game and spends the summer leaning about baseball and bonding with his new friends. When the only baseball they have gets busted, Smalls takes one from his stepdad’s office. Little does he know that the ball was signed by the legendary baseball player Babe Ruth. In fact, Smalls doesn’t even know who Babe Ruth is. When he hits the ball over the fence into the yard where “the beast” lives, the boys embark on a journey to replace the priceless baseball.
