Twenty-five years ago, Warner Bros gave us the most unlikely of films, Space Jam. Combining live action with 2D animation, that film saw Bugs Bunny and Michael Jordan team in a high-stakes game of basketball. Despite getting mixed reviews from critics, audiences seemed to love the film, turning it into a cult classic. For years, Warner Bros considered the idea of a sequel, bouncing around several ideas. However, nothing came of them, and the film went into development hell. Then in 2019, word came out that the sequel was officially on. Two years later, Space Jam: A New Legacy hit theaters and HBO Max. But how does it live up to the original’s legacy? And is it worth the hype that Warner’s put into it? The short answer: yes and no.

America: The Motion Picture; More Like America: The Bad Fanfiction

This past week, America: the Motion Picture premiered on Netflix, just in time for the Fourth of July weekend. However, instead of being the second coming of Team America: World Police, what we got was, essentially, an attempt to fuse the artistic style of Archer with pop culture references on the level of Ready Player One and Robot Chicken together. The end result is less of a satirical retelling of America’s founding and more a teenager’s fanfic that they wrote for their history class the night before it was due. It’s not even the good, high-quality fanfiction, either.

The TVA Messed With Avengers: Endgame!

As mind-blowing as Avengers: Endgame, the film had one glaring plot hole to it: Thanos. Rather, the version of Thanos that jumped forward from nine years in the past. Throughout the film, several people warned of the dangers of time travel. How it could end up leading to an alternate timeline. For the most part, the Avengers managed to avert this, with two big exceptions: Loki and Thanos. While the first episode of Loki saw the TVA deal with Loki, the question remains: why didn’t they do anything about Thanos?

The answer? They did, and we didn’t even know about it until now.

Disney, Let’s Talk About LGBTQ+ Pride Month

As many of you know, June is Pride Month. It’s the time of year when people strive to embrace the self-affirmation, respect, and representation of the LGBTQ+ community. And in recent years, great strides have been made towards LGBTQ+ representation in media aimed towards a younger audience. Shows like Steven Universe, The Owl House, She-Ra and The Princesses of Power, and more have done wonders for normalizing LGBTQ+ portrayal for kids. In other words, things have come a long way, and we should be proud of that. That being said, there’s still a ways for the LGBTQ+ Pride movement to go. Case in point, Disney’s gotten a lot of flak recently for their actions, both past and present, regarding LGBTQ Pride.
