The first part of Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 has wrapped up for now. The 12 episode long part gave us a lot of new lore in the JJK universe and some top-notch action scenes. We’ll be taking a look at the plot so far, what we can look forward to, and speculation on when part 2 will be out. There will be spoilers for part 1 of season 3 so beware!

The Culling Games

Just a few days prior, Satoru Gojo has been sealed in the prison realm, and Tokyo is infested with curses. Yuji Itadori and Choso team up to exorcise them, and Yuta Okkotsu comes to kill Yuta. This is ultimately a ruse as Yuta promised Gojo to protect him.

Meanwhile, the Zenin clan tries to kill Mai and Maki, successfully killing Mai, but not before she revives Maki and sacrifices herself, becoming a replica of Toji’s weapon so she can kill the Zenin clan, which Maki does.

Yuji and Panda team up to find Hakari, whom they need his help for the culling game. The culling game, as this season is largely based on, is a battle royale to the death against sorcerers. Orchestrated by Kenjaku, which is controlling Geto’s body, is attempting to force an evolution by assimilating with Tengen. This would send the world into chaos.

In an attempt to stop it, the main cast enters different colonies in order to save people who are trapped in them by changing rules and defeating powerful enemies. They are also looking for someone nicknamed Angel who has the ability to open the ‘back’ door of the prison realm, which can free Gojo. At the end of the five part Tokyo Colony Number One story, Megumi finally finds Angel.

The rest of part one follows Megumi and Yuji in Tokyo Colony Number One, defeating powerful foes while changing the rules of the culling game that allows travel through different colonies, and letting people be freed from the games. The final episode that just released follows only Yuta in an epic mid-season finale. He fights off many incredibly powerful sorcerers and a cursed spirit, with Rika’s aid.

The ending of the season gives us barely anything as it stops with a simple “To Be Continued”.

What Will Happen Next?

While we don’t know exactly what part two will entail, we can hope that with Megumi coming across Angel, Gojo could be released from the prison realm at some point. We should also expect to see the current cast we’ve been following, like Yuji, Megumi, Choso, Yuta, Maki and others.

I also wonder when Sukuna will emerge again. Yuji is able to suppress him and has to grapple with his guilt of Shibuya. Despite it not being his actions, he harbors a lot of shame for it and all the lives lost. He is alone in the beginning of the season with Choso because he didn’t want to hurt anyone else.

I would also love to see more Maki. Now that she’s become powerful like Toji was and eradicated the Zenin clan, I’m eager to see what fights she gets into with the culling games. We also don’t see Hakari fight just yet, despite the great lengths Yuji, Megumi, and Panda go to to recruit him. I imagine he’ll also get his time to shine in the next part.

When Will Part Two Come Out?

The unfortunate news is that there’s not much to go off of right now. We’re left on a cliffhanger but nothing major as the primary conflicts we’ve been following are resolved for the time being. I’m certainly eager to see what’s next to come though.

For now, It’s been announced that part two will be released as a season four. Season four will be “The Culling Games: Part Two.” It’s speculated that part two will drop sometime early 2027, but nothing is definitive.

What did you think of season 3? I think Mappa really upped their animation game, showcasing incredible talent and style this season. It makes me all the more excited how season four will look and what we will experience next.
