Now that we’re somewhat into the new year, we have a ton of games coming out, some of which I’m very excited for, and others I’m excited to just hear about. This year, we expect a lot of big title games and some new ideas. So, without further ado, we will explore some of the biggest anticipated games to be released.
- Grand Theft Auto 6
GTA 6 has been a long running meme online, where people say, “we got _ before GTA 6”, but that wait is almost over. Slated to release in fall of this year, GTA 6 is coming to PlayStation and Xbox. The last major title for this series came out all the way back in 2013, a 12 year hiatus for the series. While they dropped a trailer back in December 2023, it finally just came out that the game is coming this year. I’m sure long time fans are eager for this big name to finally drop!
- Little Nightmares 3
I’ve already dedicated more of my time in my last publication about this franchise as a whole, but this title is also too big to ignore. Little Nightmares 3 is set to release this year, and coming out on all major platforms, including Nintendo Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. As a longtime fan of the series since its inception, the hype for this game is huge for me, and a major plus that it has multiplayer capabilities, something the previous two games did not. It’ll be a fun journey truly sharing this twisted experience with another person.
- Split Fiction
Another highly anticipated title for me, as it is created by the same studio that created It Takes Two. With how diverse the game mechanics were for It Takes Two, I’ve no doubt Split Fiction will be similar. Set to release o9n PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, this game follows two protagonists who are thrown back and forth into their vastly different worlds of their making; one in a fantasy setting, and one in a sci-fi esque story. They must learn to navigate their different worlds and trust each other to escape it. This game already has an official release, where we’re just a few weeks shy of their March 6th drop. It’s another multiplayer game, so I’m very excited to pick this title up very soon.
- Monster Hunter Wilds
While not a franchise I’m at all familiar with, I know better than to understate the popularity of this anticipated title. This title also has a very soon release date, coming on the very last day of February on the 28th. It’ll be released on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC and the successor to Monster Hunter: World. In this game, you are a monster hunter (duh), fighting monsters and protecting the balance of the world you inhabit.
- Death Stranding 2: On The Beach
Given the reception of the actual gameplay, this was a title I did not expect to ever see a successor for. But here it is, and it’s coming sometime this year. Coming out only on PlayStation 5, this game is the direct sequel to the somewhat controversial first game. The thing I personally know most about this game is the soundtrack, starring artists like The Neighborhood, Bring Me The Horizon, Low Roar, MISSIO, and more. The gameplay itself I know was more of like a glorified Amazon delivery service on foot in an apocalyptic setting. Despite it, I know the story itself was well received and the game has a place in many people’s hearts, even if it’s not for everyone.
There are many many more titles that are coming and deserve recognition, but I felt these titles deserved the spotlight most for all the anticipation of fans and how beloved they are in different ways. It’s going to be an exciting year for gaming, that’s for sure!
2025 is sure to be a booming year with games to look forward to!
Looking forward to Monster Hunter Wilds!
