I will never tire of finding cozy games with farming elements. For most of my tenure here at TGON, I have been lucky enough to share a variety of virtual farming sims. We have seen everything from darkly romantic games like Graveyard Keeper to adorable ones like Sprout Valley. This genre can take so many avenues, and I love sharing these games with you. Therefore, when I found an RPG with farming elements, I knew I had to share it with the TGON fanbase. So, without further ado, let’s talk about Mirthwood.

Mirthwood‘s Story

In Mirthwood, players will find themselves in a medieval fantasy world. Your homeland has been swept up in a great war. Rather than fighting it out, you have fled to a new land. This promises a fresh start, full of opportunity, and the ability to become the person you want to be. Will you become a farmer, tending to the crops and animals? Or will you become an adventurer and fight through this sandbox world? The choice is yours.

Thoughts on Mirthwood

When I am not playing farming sims, I find myself in a world of fantasy. From the television shows I watch to the books I read, I love immersing myself in fantastical lands. Therefore, when I found Mirthwood on Steam, I was immediately intrigued. The hand-drawn graphics are stunning, and the trailer feels mysterious. I need to know more about this possibly elven curse! All my favorite buzzwords were checked off when I found this title.

Another element of this game that piques my interest is the social interactions. On the Steam page, it was described as “Sims-style.” I wonder if that means there will be different dialogue options to choose from. Perhaps it could just refer to the scaling of friendship. If we are mean or negative around NPCs, will they automatically like us less? I am unsure; however, I am excited to find out.
In conclusion, there is much to be excited about with Mirthwood. Based on what I have seen on Steam and their website, I will try this title over the holiday break. It looks like a fun mash-up of my two favorite worlds: farming sim and fantasy RPG. I look forward to trying it.

Odds & Ends

It is currently available on Steam if you want to join the Mirthwood action. Upon launch, there were some bugs, but the dev team is actively working to fix them. If you run across any, there is a Discord to report them. Overall, it seems like a successful launch. Are you looking for a farming sim with a different kind of vibe? I recommend this article on Lightyear Frontier. Ultimately, farming sims are my favorite games to talk about, and I am excited to see where this genre takes us.
